Transport port to airport

Must get from the port to Athens airport. My ship (Louis) docks 6 am and plane departs 11 am; can I do this? I'd much rather take a bus or a subway (I've read up on them). If it's cutting things too short (I don't want to chase the plane down the runway!) how much is the taxi from port to airport? Thanks.

I'd also like to know about costs of a cab from the port to the airport and how long it takes. The X96 bus starts at Karaiskaki square- does anyone know where this is in relation to the metro station?

We took the X96 bus to the airport from the port. It was about a 20 minute walk from the port. The square is before you get to the metro so it's not as far. We did ask a few people on the way and finally found it. It takes about an hour to get to the airport and maybe more if traffic is bad. Our flight was at 12:45 so we had plenty of time.
