ChefSusan Posted August 31, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2010 We have a Sony Cybershot that we bought last year during Black Friday - it takes awesome shots, has a food setting (for all of the food porn that I shoot while on vacation), and also has a movie setting (in case we want to shoot video). apdchief Posted August 31, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2010 I purchased the Olympus tough 8000 for our cruise last March. It is waterproof and takes great pictures above and under water. Check out the pictures on my review from our trip on the Valor on March 7, 2010.

SB2788 Posted August 31, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2010 To the OP, You're going to get so many different responds. I bet everyone thinks their camera is, "the best." With that being said, you should maybe check out some places like PC Magazine, CNet, and Consumer Reports to get an idea of what the experts are rating as the bests. I use a Nikon L110 with a Hoya Super Haze UV filter on it and I believe my pictures come out pretty good... Good luck! P.S Get the biggest memory card your budget allows. Prices range from less than $100 to well into the thousands.
godzukihop Posted August 31, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 31, 2010 I love all Sony products, but purchased a Canon Powershot because of the great reviews in Consumers magazine. The BEST $150 I ever spent. Go with the Cannon Powershot!!!!:D:D:D
zackiedawg Posted August 31, 2010 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2010 SB2788's advice is good - you will always get 'my brand is awesome' posts, and not that they're wrong or right, they just don't always hit on what's best for you. The good basic news is that they're all pretty good, and there aren't any major brands to avoid. It just comes down to what features you want, which feels best in your hands, and what has the best price. Also note that many recommendations here will state the name of a camera series, such as 'Powershot' or 'Cybershot' or 'Tough'. To be very clear, these are lines of cameras, often involving dozens of different models ranging from el-cheapo strippers to highly-specified expensive models. Blanket statements don't really cover all the cameras under that series name - by no means should you just buy any camera within the 'Powershot' or 'Cybershot' banner and expect excellence and all the features you want. Shop the models, and come up with a list of must-have features or specs (HD video? Stabilization? Lens zoom range? Low light ability? Fast burst modes? Long battery life? Maximum pocketability? Waterproof? Wide angle? AA batteries or lithium?). That will help eliminate some of the many models that don't meet your needs, and narrow your selection! chipmaster Posted August 31, 2010 #12 Share Posted August 31, 2010 What are you looking for? Cheap P&S for less than 200 bucks Ultra thing slide in your pocket with the latest everything for ~ 400 bucks. Waterproof for in swimming? Superzoom for alaska? Everyone will tell you they are happy with the brand they have if they don't they will likely tell you about the new one they bought and are happy with :D This is one of the better sites for a high level take on the best in every group: http://www.imaging-resource.com/WB/WB.HTM Leaving this weekend for cruise. PinkJellyFish06 Posted September 1, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted September 1, 2010 Thanks for all of your replies : ) I do not know much about cameras but we are trying to stay under the $200 limit. My last camera was a Samsung L830 & I really liked it, but it got dropped quite a few times & now it doesnt work. I looked at waterproof ones because we like to snorkel on our vacations, so those are an option. I just want a camera that is easy to use, but maybe has some special features, takes great pictures, and doesnt cost TOO much.
