Hello All fellow cruisers...:p

First Cruise coming up with my 4 yo son and I thought it would be fun to make envelopes and put tips in those and hand them out accordingly...

Is that frowned upon or does Carnival give the envelopes out when you get to your room...

Sorry if it is a dumb ?...never cruised before don't know???

THNX as always ahead of time...:D

Your gratuities are automatically charged to your Sail and Sign card and distributed to all the folks that assist you on your cruise.

If you would like to give a little extra, then cute envelopes would probably be appreciated.

I personally have never been able to find envelops that fit my karoke CDs.:D

(sorry...could't resist :) )

Seriously, the staff would love it. But I personally would hand them out at the end of the cruise for any tipping you would want to do on top of your auto-gratuities.

No question is ever dumb when asked in good faith.

Since auto tips were initiated, I have brought thank you cards and envelopes to put extra cash in for those I felt made our cruise extra special or above and beyond. I like to add a hand written note, and found out many times people like waiters or stewards rarely get any photos (with them in photo) and made effort to take a photo say with them and my son- then printed from my camera card using photo center

and put them in thank you note. They were happy saying they could mail photos home of them working.

Just an idea. Maybe your son would be thrilled to draw/color special thank you pictures to put in a large envelope- it would give him something to work on during cruise, and can explain how good he can make people feel, and rewarding for him to do so.

(Sorry that's the mom in me speaking)

It is also helpful to include staff names you would like to recognize and why in your comment card. I read they take the comment cards seriously and management may promote a staff member much easier if positive feedback on them from guests.

Hint:

I bring many camera memory cards-usually a small memory card one per day- it is easier to load a new one in camera everyday and if something happens to camera the whole trip is not lost

Also, if son uses Camp Carnival many do not remember to tip or even thank the staff if you feel they did a great job.

I also like to tip people like the pizza guy or omelete guy if given extra service, they remember my name etc. I know they participate in a $1 per person tip that gets pooled, but love it when $5 makes a huge difference.

I love to take thank you note cards with me to leave a personal note for those who go above and beyond. A few cruises ago I started going one step farther and asking the purser's desk to make a copy of the note and forward it to the appropriate manager. Twice now I have had the head purser come out and thank me for taking the time to do so.

While I agree cash is king when tipping a genuine thank you for hard work and great service can go a long way as well. Teaching children to appreciate the efforts of others is a wonderful lesson to teack and I think taking the time to make the cards with them can reinforce good manners.

I posted above about doing thank yous, notes etc. I will now "copy" your purser idea of copying my thank you's for ditribution. Recognition goes a long way, in addition to the cash.

I keep my auto tips on and then use the envelopes that I get with my Platinum stationery to give extra tips to my waitstaff, cabin steward and my favorite martini making bartender. Finally found a use for those envelopes, now if I can only find a use for the stationery embossed with the Carinval and my name. I use one sheet to write a thank you note to the Casino host for all my Carnival Players Club goodies. The rest piling up in a drawer in my office.

I think the staff would appreciate personalized thank you envelopes created by your children. I am sure some of them have children of their own and would love to have a card made by a child.
