PortFever Posted September 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2010 Checking MarineTraffic.com, I noticed that Freedom appeared to return to Miami (left from Ft Lauderdale) very late this evening. The ship's track is incomplete but speed readings show she was happily steaming south at 14 knots but then later, steaming north again at close to 24 knots... in a hurry! She was off the Port of Miami just afer 10pm local time and heading south again by 10:45pm. Anyone know what happened? Here's Freedom leaving Port Everglades earlier this afternoon... salty dingo Posted September 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2010 From the track, it does appear Freedom made a bee line for the Miami harbor entrance, and turned around just outside the channel. This could indicate she was meeting up with another ship which was heading out of the Port of Miami. A medical emergency is the most likely explanation. Another possibility would be a passenger committed a crime and was turned over to the police.
Ashimself Posted June 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2011 Could also be that she was heading down to pick up parts for the engines. She lost power on Saturday night while near Freeport, Bahamas and drifted for more than an hour. She was late getting into port on Sunday and late setting sail on Sunday afternoon. It could be that they needed something to continue repairs, or just a couple of spares in case it happened again. Just a thought.
