Has anyone gone (recently) on Carnival's Legend - 8 Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise fron NYC to San Juan, St Thomas, Tortola back to NYC?

It is scheduled to leave Wed June 22 at 4 pm from NYC. At what time do they actually let people board if it leaves at 4pm? Also, I've seen plenty of complaints about the food and service for this ship. Do they have midnight buffet every night? Is the food & service still bad?

Hi, yes I was on the Carnival legend last Sept. I have to say that this was my first cruise and I loved it! The food I thought was very good and so did the seven other people we cruised with. The kids club was excellent and they had plenty to do. They let us on the ship quite early and I was surprised. We live in New York so we took a limo to Manhattan and arrived about 11:30. We were on the ship by 1:00. We had lunch looked around a bit and then went to our room. Our luggage was already there!! We stayed in the Cat. 11 suite, which was a lot bigger then my cousins room which was a balcony cabin.

Yes there is a midnight buffet every night. We went twice.

I heard a lot of bad things about the legend before we cruised also. But I have to say that everyone is different. I think you will have a great time!!! If you have any other questions you can send me an email and I will be happy to answer them.

We will be going on our second Cruise July 1st on RCCL Voyager of the Seas.. I can't wait!!!!

We went in July. There were some problems with the previous sailing and the ship returned late so we got started late. 8 hours late!!! It did not start our cruise off well. But we did have a good time. The ship is really very nice and the food is good, not great. I only have Celebrity to compare it to. I would go on Carnival again but not this itinerary. I would have liked more time in Tortola and skip San Juan. Also two days at sea were a bit much. I know there are many cruisers that love sea days but 2.5 days till the first stop is too long for me. The ship design in the buffet area isn't the best. There were horrible lines in the buffet due to the delay in sailing so everyone wanted to eat at the same time and the dining room wasn' t open. The lines wrap around and block the kitchen doors so the staff had to break through the lines of people with their carts and trays. Not well thought out in my opinion.

my husband and i did this cruise for our honeymoon in October and LOVED it. it was our first cruise so we didn't have anything to compare it too but we thought it was great. embarkation was awful to be honest but once we got on the ship, we had nothing to complain about. the rooms were bigger than i expected, the staff was great, the food delicious, and we even won in the casino! we thought all the ports were great but we did pretty exciting excursions at each (horseback riding in san juan, seatrek diving in st thomas, and swimming with dolphins in tortola). we didn't mind the sea days because we like to relax and take naps a lot. We heard some complaints from others on the ship but nothing major. i firmly believe that the trip will be what you decide to make of it! have fun!

I have to say I agree with Mcgraiha the trip will be what you make of it. I am in my early 30's and the two days at sea were fine. There is so much to do, or nothing at all.. The choice is yours.. I will say that San juan was not good. We should have taken a cab to New San juan, and gone to the beach. Instead we walked to do some shopping. Well there were bums on the street and beleive me I live in New York so I see my share of bums every day. However these people had open sores and were bleeding. (sorry to be so gross but I'm being honest) They were also coming up to us with bags of what looked like rice and asking us for money. My daughter was scared and wanted to go back to the boat, so that is what we did.

When we told other passengers they then told us we should have got in a cab and went to the Newer part of San Juan. Oh well it was too late then. All and all that was about the worst part of the cruise, and even that was not all that bad.

Like I said earlier everyone has there own opinion. Your vacation will be exactly what you make of it and I think you will have a great time. :)

Thank you all for your responses. I feel a lot better about going now. I have one more question I just thought of since my teenage son wants to bring his Xbox on board. Do the rooms have electrical outlets that work with the American standard of eletricity (Alternating Current) as oppose to DC? Or like for example, if I wanted to charge my camcorder batteries? I would assume yes ... but figure I better ask. Better safe than sorry. Thanks!
