Oasis person to person phones?

I am not sure what these things are called but I undstand you can rent some type of phones so you can connect with your friends you are traveling with. Does anyone have any info on these? Thanks in advance

I think they call them Royal Connect Phones. It's basically an I-phone that's hooked into the Oasis' network. DH and I got them on our July cruise and found them to be very helpful. They were about $17 each for the week. We each had our own phone number so we (or anyone else with one of the phones) could call to reach us. There was also a "person finder" feature - a GPS so that you could see where the other person was on the ship. (This is a double edged sword - he was able to find me in the casino:eek:.) The daily Cruise Compass in also available on the phone.

We picked ours up as soon as we got on the ship. They were available at the Jazz Club on Deck 4, but the venue may change from cruise to cruise.

How did you know where the location to pick them up was at? We are on the Oasis on Sat and this would be great. Since cell phones are $2 per min : (

I went to Guest Relations as soon as we boarded (got on the ship at about 11:45) and asked. They directed me. I'm probably misunderstanding what you mean, but these phones cannot be used to make calls to any other numbers except to other phones onboard. I didn't know if you meant you were thinking about using them to make phone calls home.

No, we were thinking we would just use our cell phones to get a hold of each other on the ship until I found out how much Verizon charges a minute. Thanks for the heads on how to get the onboard ones, we'll do that right away. I assume they have a limited amount per cruise.

We were on the Oasis. I think it's one of the best things we spent our money on. Also, the daily compass is on it. too. No need to carry the paper compass. I think you can also make reservations on it, too. Text, etc.

$17.00 to rent each one.

One thing you should be aware of is that there is a $1000.00 cost if you lose the phone. We only got 2 phones and 2 locaters (free). One phone stayed with the kids (my 14 yr. old). They were, of course, warned that if it was lost it was out of their pocket. The other phone with us.

The locators were just in case we separated from the phone holders. If your children are older than 4, don't bother with the locaters. They are way too big, bulky and geeky. Luckily, my daughter (11) won a little change purse on the ship and she stuck it in there and no knew. Pockets were a requirement to carry the Iphone in our family. Girls clothing is tougher when it comes to pockets.

The phone worked really well for us. We actually watched out kids move from area to area all the way to our door. We opened our door when they were several feet away. The phone saved us so much time in running around looking for someone or trying to get a quick message to someone.

Although, I will tell you it wasn't easy getting them on our cruise. It was a Royal goose chase trying to find the location. They must change the locations from cruise to cruise or something.

There were many signs as to where to pick them up, but none of those spots had them. We were one of the first to board early. This was our first must do thing to do. It literally took 2.5 +hrs by the time actually had the phones in our hands. The first 1 20 mins. was spent running around looking for them at false locations listed. Once we found it, we waited in lines to sign up for it. Then we were moved to another location where we waited in another line to pick them up. Then only to be told about 20 minutes later to come back an hour later to get the phones.

It was a waste of time waiting. Many people quite upset. I think this cruise crew was just so messed up with the phone issue.

Even with this hassel, we would do all again.

tneah: I also agree about the goose chase. We were told 5 different places (most on different floors and areas of the ship) from guest relations, and other RCCL reps etc before we finally found those phones on the first day. On the Oct. 2, 2010 cruise you could rent them right outside of the On Air Club.

We were on Aug. 22 sailing.

On Air Location was the first location we were told, but not true.

Yes, it was like 5 different locations and then trying some of the same locations over again. We thought they were sending us on a goose chase on purpose. Not a great way to start of a vacation.

The location ended up being at the excursion desk on the promenade. Pick-up in Boleros.

I guess we just got lucky. We were told the Jazz Club on Deck 4 and voila there they were. We were actually the first ones to get the phones. I will absolutely do it again when we cruise on Oasis the next time (whenever that may be...).

We were on the Aug 21 sailing and when we boarded into the Promenade there was a kiosk with a lady handing out the form to fill out. You tell her how many you need and she writes a number on the top of the form. You then go to Boleros to pick up the phone. They call out a number and the person with that number on the sheet is up next to get the phone. This process takes forever so you can leave and check back later. If they passed you number you will be next to be called. If you have a form with a number you are guaranteed to get the phone as long as you pick it up sometime that day. If you have an ipod or iphone bring your charger. Mine didn't work so i used my own personal one. They will say the phone charge will last all day but i found it dies around 6pm so keep in mind on a sea day that it might need an afternoon charge. Also the phone only works on the ship so no need to bring to port. If you have kids i highly recommend the gps tags although they are bulky. My 12 and 10yr olds did wear theirs and we would let them explore a little while watching where they were on the locator function on the phone. Also if you have a smartphone either turn it off, turn off data roaming, or put it on airplane mode as you will run up ship per minute or data use charges when it fetches for email.
