Off site parking lots near POM?

We will be taking a 7 night cruise out of POM in August and are weighing whether to park at the port or one of the lots a few minutes away. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience good or bad with parking in one of the off site lots near the port.

 

Besides having to prepay/reserve your space how different is this to parking off site at an airport?
