Just back from Triumph-Eastern Caribbean-03/12/05

Recommended Posts

Just got back. Had a great time except for some issues with our room. We were upgraded to the Panorama Deck and our main concern was the proximity to the gym. We kept asking if we would be bothered by noise and were assured we would not be. Unfortunately, we were awoken every morning before 6:30. People would be working out with weights and then just dropping them. The resulting banging would wake us up. Went to the gym and asked people nicely not to drop their weights. Were informed by the staff that there was a sign asking people not to drop their weights. We also called the purser's desk to let them know. By the fourth morning, the purser's desk sent us a bottle of wine and some drink tickets, but unfortunately, that did not solve the problem.

Other than that, the crew was wonderful, the chaise hogs were in full force and the food was incredible.

Any questions and I'll try to respond. There was a good crew from Cruise Critic also and I'm sure they have many opinions.

We did the Triumph-Eastern Caribbean-02/12/05!

We also had a great time! Our room was on the upper deck.

I studied the deck plans and picked a cabin with a double length balcony for the same cost! (#6424)

We also witnessed the chair hogs but that was easily taken care of by telling a deck attendant or simply just relocating the towels to another spot ourselves.

The grandparents:

I see your cabin was on the Upper Deck. Did you have any problems with noise either in your cabin or on the balcony? I believe this is above the disco right? We have a couple in our group booked on this deck in June.

Collette and Ron:

I'm happy to hear you didn't let the room ruin your cruise, but that's too bad. So lets talk about the good stuff..........THE FOOD!! LOL!! Please tell us what you loved and where you had it? Diningroom..buffet?

Any great quiet spots to lounge or read?

Just wondering about the decor. I read it's the world theme but what colors. Is it gaudy or toned down.(you know what I mean I hope)

Thanks for answering and I'm glad you had a nice time.

Our cabin was the second from the front of the boat. We did like stepping out in front of the 10th deck, but boy was it windy.

We ate breakfast and lunch on the lido deck. Buffet breakfast was available until noon. Lunch was either the deli, open from 11-11, I think, the grill, the chinese food or the pizzeria, open 24 hours. I already forget the hours for the grill and the chinese food. Never ate off of the lunch buffet.

Dinner was 8:30 in the London dining room. Order 2 of everything if you want! Great service. We ate in Paris dining room in San Juan as it was open sitting from 6:00-8:30. Great view from the back of the boat.

If you want a quiet place to read outside, I would suggest the deck off of the lobby level. It might be a little windy though. The deck chairs here are padded. Otherwise the pool at the rear is less crowded and pretty protected from the wind. Definitely quieter than the other pool, plus you're right at the grill and the pizzeria, not to mention a great bar.

The colours didn't bother us. They didn't seem as gaudy as the Inspiration or the Fascination.

Hope that helps.

We were in Upper #6424, second from the end. (aft)

Our huge double length balcony was well worth the one evening of music that we did hear. It was not very loud nor did it last very long and we always had our balcony door open anyway.

Very little wind on our balcony but you did feel some vibration at times from the engines but that is a good thing to us. (I like feeling that I am on a ship)

Food in the dining room was very good, portions were on the small side though.

We odered 2 complete dinners every night.

The more aft in the dining room you got the more vibration you could feel.

The deck off of the lobby was almost always empty but it was pretty windy there everytime we checked.

Grandparents - I am staying in the room across the hall #6459 that has an extended balcony too.

Did you cabin have a couch in it?

We have other family that is coming and is staying across the hall in an inside cabin.

How many people could you fit on your balcony?

Thanks!!!

Thanks to everyone for the info! We leave for our pre-cruise in just 16 days! Whoo Hoo:D! I have a few more questions I hope someone can help with.

Can you tell me if formal nights were still Tuesday and Friday on your cruise (we're on the Eastern itinery, if that matters)? Regarding the chair hogs, was that problem primarily in the pool area, or was it everywhere?

Can anyone comment on the shows and comedians (i.e. which are must see, which are to be avoided)? Did anyone have children that went to the kids club, and if so, how did the kids like the program?

Can you tell us about what you did on shore on your port days?

We're a group of eight; DW and I, our three kids (12, 8, 3yo), MIL (in honor of her 70th birthday), and my two SIL's.

Thanks again to everyone for posting!

Hi,

We were on the same cruise as Collette and Ron (never did manage to meet up though!). My husband, two children (11 and 8) and I were in one room and my parents were in another room down the hall. We were on the Verandah deck and I liked it's close proximity to everything.

First off, let me state that the cruise was absolutely wonderful! There was one issue that was not handled well however. We had a big problem with the vulgar attitudes of the drunken young ladies in the cabin next to us and didn't sleep a full night once on this cruise! Even after requesting multiple times to be moved, the purser's desk didn't follow through and missed an opportunity to make things right. While they were responsive (they sent security up when we called each evening, gave us a bottle of champagne, and a 10% future cruise letter), they didn't handle this issue well. We were a family with young children who were nervous about the yelling and cursing going on in the cabin next door at 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning and should have been moved. I was told there were other rooms available, but they wouldn't fit a family of four. In hindsight, we should have been more insistent.

However, with that said, there were so many other wonderful things about this cruise and its staff that we would still highly recommend this cruise to others.

Formal nights were Sunday and Thursday nights.

My 11-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter loved Camp Carnival. They had a lot of age-appropriate activities to keep them entertained and they spent part of each day or evening at the Camp. The highlight of the trip for my children was (in order) the readily-available soft serve ice cream, the huge water slide, and the delicious pizza.

Highlights of the trip for my husband and me was sitting out in the sun with no thought of shoveling snow as well as the pampering we got from our cabin steward and waiters. They were great!

I would say the highlight of the trip for my parents was all the luck they had in the casino!

For the ports of call, we just walked around the pier area in San Juan, due to our short time there. We had a great tour of St. Thomas with Sunny Liston and would highly recommend him. For St. Maarten, we explored on our own and visited with a friend who is living there now (lucky him!).

We had the 6:15 dinner in the London dining room and our waiters Benjamin and Maxim were the best! I thought the food was very good and liked the fact that the portions weren't huge. I could have a little of everything and not feel uncomfortable. My husband, whose appetite is much bigger than mine was fine most nights with one entree, but didn't turn down the food when the waiters brought seconds of something he liked! Even our son had two lobster tails on the first formal night!

The shows were great! I wasn't planning to go to the Passenger Talent show, but I have to say I'm glad I did. It was one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. With the kids' schedules, we didn't see any of the adult-only entertainment, but I think they give enough notice if something is going to be R or X-rated, so if you have children, you shouldn't be put in any awkward situations. The cruise director, Chris was terrific and my kids especially loved Wee Jimmy and his slightly off-color rap song!

One thing that was special was going to the quiet area at the front of decks 6 or 7 and watching the ship pull into San Juan. My son and I had the area almost all to ourselves!

We are back in the 'real world' now and it's been a little difficult. I keep telling my children to take off their Sail and Sign cards, because it's not going to get them back on the ship! But we have many wonderful memories of the vacation and the nice people we met (from this board!).

Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

Karen
