Getting around Monaco

Metaxus

Recommended Posts

We are on Liberty in September, and planning to get the train from Villefranche to spend a half day in Monaco seeing the Palace, Casino and harbour areas

We know Monaco is tiny, but I'm a bit uncertain as to whether the hills and elevators mean it is difficult and confusing to get around it easily.

If we are (reasonably) fit, should we be able to get around on foot and are the sights well signposted?

Or we do we need to consider getting around by bus or even taxi.

Monaco is very easy to get around, but you are right, it is hilly.

I would suggest doing the HOHO bus. At any point in the tour, you can just hop off, see the sites and then hop back on when the bus comes by again. We took the complete tour around once and the second time around we hopped off and hopped on again.

I think it would be hard to get lost in Monaco. But, even if you are reasonablly fit, getting from the Palace to the Casino will chew up a decent amount of your time.

I liked the local bus system. Buses are clean and convienent. 1 EUR per ride, or 3 EUR for an all-day pass.

I, too, think Monaco is easy to navigate. But, for those who want to or need to minimize walking, the local bus system is VERY good and very inexpensive. Every stop on this map is clickable, leading to a photo of the stop so that you can see exactly where you need to be (clicking on the photo will enlarge it.) It makes planning your day very easy:

Other ways to minimize walking...

Thanks.

That's brilliant.

The Little Train at 7 euros sounds better value than the Hop On Hop Off Grand Tour bus at 17 euros to get a tour round the place. Partularly, if to go from A to B by local bus it is so cheap.

That interactive map of the Bus Routes is fantastic! Thanks.

But the railway station is, I believe, tricky.

I believe you can come out at 3 different levels.

Looking at the bus route map, it looks like we need to look out for the Princesse Florestine exit to catch the 1 or 2 bus to get to Monaco-Ville and the Palace.
