Half of our 8 cruises have been on the Spirit (and one of the others was on the Pride) and I already can't wait to sail her again next year. I'm thinking Australia will zoom to the top of my bucket list once she's moved. I'm very interested in finding out what ship will replace her in Alaska now that DD has seen the light on preferring cool-weather cruises. :p Right now, I'm on a mini-countdown waiting for my mid-year bonus to hit my account next week--as soon as it hits, I'm booking. :D :D

I dont think there will be another ship brought to the west coast for perm. all year mexico sailings but who knows!

I dont think there will be another ship brought to the west coast for perm. all year mexico sailings but who knows! Oh, I hope not! I liked the Splendor last year, but she's just too big. I talked with a couple crew on board and they said they have no idea what ship will replace the Spirit. If it's the Splendor, I don't see my sticking with Carnival for Alaska. Sad. :(

Sad. :( I know I feel ya I just did the OOSTERDAM in april coastal cruising & loved it! its the Spirit tweaked differently but a great mix young & old it felt like carnival lol! HAL is CARNIVAL CORP LOL im loyal hehehe, princess, HAL & DEF. CARNIVAL so far.....! It sucks cause carnival corp isint making their bottom line on the west coast & mexico violence doesnt help & carnival corp doesnt sound thrilled to bring much in either of their brands to the west coast! OOSTERDAM is going down under too! The Dawn princess went down under & so many ships from other brands completely left the west coast! its sad cause i love cruising! Nice talking to ya & great review see you again on here & have a good nite, heading to the pool need to cool off from the vegas heat:):p:D

CeeVee Posted July 20, 2011 #110 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Quilting Cruiser... I loved your reviewed,,, read every one of them... And I have a couple of questions... First of all I see you drove in from Portland,, we will be driving in from Calif. My husband is on home dialize and need to take his take his medical stuff... so we are getting to Seattle by car.. and I was wondering if I could take 99 from I-5 up to the peir 91 instead of going thro Seattle on I-5 as the maps app. is taking me which goes all around then on Denny Way to Eillott Ave. to the Magnolia Bridge? Also I too am a quilter,,, any good shops in Portland as we will be going thro there,,, and on the way? any good hints for this happy quilter? lol

I live out on the west side in a suburb of Portland and my favorite place to buy quilt fabric just went out of business. :( But, I have a closet full that will keep me going for the foreseeable future! I loved the little quilt shop in Skagway and I understand there's a good one in Juneau, too. If you do a search on the Alaska board, you'll find information there. :D We were staying in downtown Seattle at the Monaco. It's on 4th Avenue and it didn't take even 15 minutes to get to Smith Cove Travel (where we parked the car at a rate significantly less than parking at the Pier 91). If you're not spending the night in Seattle and are driving straight to the pier, I honestly don't know the route you'd take--whenever I'm up that way, I'm actually going to Seattle so I don't know the routes around the city. If you CAN avoid going through it, I would assume you'd miss the heavy downtown traffic. I suggest going over to the West Coast Departures board and asking there about routes--there's at least one Seattle resident who answers questions on that board. Have a wonderful cruise!! :D

Quilting_Cruiser Posted July 21, 2011 Author #114 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Just read your entire review. I really enjoyed it and now I want to go to Alaska too! Thanks for sharing. :) Book it! :D:D Thank you for your comments. Looks like I'll be booking our next Alaska cruise next week. We're planning to go again next June. We'll definitely repeat the Tracy Arm excursion and salmon fishing. I think I already have DD convinced we MUST do a helicopter landing on a glacier (she's not crazy about heights), which I'm sure will be a highlight! We were planning on going again this summer, but I went to Europe on business in the fall and decided I needed to take my DD to Ireland instead. We just got back a week ago! So, no Alaska for us this summer. We'll be going again though, that's for sure! I hope you and your mom have a dream vacation! Well done.... Thank you!
