Smoking in Sports Bar - Zuiderdam

Smoking is no longer allowed in the Sports Bar on Zuiderderm. According to the bartender in there, this has been in effect for at least 9 mos. The casino still allows smoking but the adjacent piano bar does not. So, this area of the Zuiderdam is limiting smoking to the casino only now. This is a change (Sports Bar is non-smoking) I did not expect as nothing has been published about this change.

 

I'm just posting this to give a heads up to those who expected to be able to smoke in there and give a light of happiness to those who want smoking venues restricted more.

I know people were smoking in the sports bar when I was on Zuiderdam in April so I don't think it's been banned for 9 months. If smoking was not allowed in April, then no one was enforcing it. I know the bartenders provided ashtrays for a table next to us. My husband wanted to watch a ball game but we ended up leaving because the smell was getting to us.

•Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)

•Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)

•Sports Bar

•Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)

We happened to be in the Zuiderdam Sports Bar on two different occasions (sailing: April 22 and May 14) when someone came in, lit a cigarette and was promptly and politely informed that smoking was not allowed.

There was no smoking in the Sports Bar in March. You could smoke at the bar in Northern Lights nightclub across the way.

The casino still allows smoking but the adjacent piano bar does not.

Smoking has not been allowed in the Piano Bar on a Vista class ship at least as long ago as March, 2006. I don't know that it was ever allowed in there. People in the Piano Bar who wanted to have a ciggy did go to the Sports Bar then.

Smoking has always been allowed in the Casino.

I was on Zuiderdam for the April 2 partial Panama Canal sailing. There is a small room that is behind the bar in the Sports Bar. I thought that room was also part of the "Sports Bar" but it sounds like I am wrong. I'm not sure what that room was called. When we first sat down, there was a couple who was smoking but we sat a bit away from them. They were joined by 2 other couples who also started smoking. The waiter brought them another ashtray and never said anything about the area being non-smoking. We left shortly after that.
