Celebrity Eclipse..BORING??

Such a shame too as one of my Top 10 cruises ever was on the Celebrity Galaxy, now Mein Schiff with TUI. At least the two sisters are together.

 

My first cruise ever was on Celebrity Mercury back in September 2004 to Alaska. To this today, me and my buddies will still say, "We miss Mercury!"

Im glad I read this thread. I was looking into Celebrity. Im 51 and like the "partying crowds". Guess I wont be going on Celebrity real soon. To bad too because I really like the looks of the Solstice class ships. They will probably be to boring for me. Dont get me wrong I dont party like I used to. Just like being entertained. I do have a question though. I dont mean to make this sound rude but did most of you people quit living when you hit 30??? Life is to short! Live a little!!!! Kick it up!!!!

 

Nah, not quitting living here. I'm in my late 30s. I was on a X cruise last summer (First cruise ever) and was fortunate enough to be seated at a table of 10 with others also in their 30s. We all got along great. Ended up going to shows together, participating in the music/name that tune contests in the sky lounge, relaxing at the aft bar at 2AM, and even playing bocce ball at 2AM one night (thanks to one of us knowing where Celebrity stored the equipment). I think that in general Celebrity will be a bit lower key, but with the right tablemates and new friends you can have a great time on board at any age.

 

All that said, I'm looking at booking an X Med cruise in the next couple months. I realize it'll be a bit more low-key than the Caribbean, but I look forward to meeting some new people either through CruiseCritic or from my onboard dinner table assignment. I've considered Royal Caribbean but I have to admit I'm partial to X for now. Much better relaxation, smoke-free casino, and very good drinks at martini or molecular bar.

One other thought as to demographics, nightlife, etc on board.

 

We live in NJ, work in Philly and are reasonably close to NYC (where we were born) and AC - so we do have opportunities for nightlife ... BUT once you hit 35 or so and are (happily ;)) married - going out for drinner, drinks, maybe dancing (or at least listening to music) becomes harder and harder. One of the reasons we love cruising so much is that it is one of the few opportunities that we have found at our very advanced ages to stay out late, enjoying different venues and entertainment with your spouse/partner/whatever.

 

We certainly have favorite restaurants and we do go out for drinks too, usually with friends - but someone has to be the DD and drive home and often the atmosphere is just too young, too loud or too single for us to last more than an hour or so. Most of our socializing now takes place at home or at friends' homes - lots of fun, but nice to get a little dressed up and "go out" too.

 

People in their 20s and early 30s usually have a lot more choices for nightlife at home - so I for one appreciate that cruiselines are not all "one size fits all" and that X and other lines offer chances to dance, drink, laugh, eat and have fun even if you are past keggers and raves!
