Fun Ship Dollars - Is it true?

I purchased some funship dollars online that were automatically credited to my on board account. I put enough on there that I figured would cover me for the week, plus gratuities.

I should have read the fine print sooner, I know :o but I just read that funship dollars, when used as OBC can NOT be used towards gratuities. Does this mean, if I already have X amount of OBC, they're going to make me put MORE on there upon embarkation to cover gratuities???

I also read that the FSDs are not redeemable for cash...so that means I'm going to have to spend ALL of it, right? I won't get a check at the end of the cruise? Even if I bought the credit myself?

I plan on putting about $350 in OBC before I sail, then I am going to pay for my excursions ahead of time, but I know I will spend more than the $350 on drinks and photos and whatnot on the ship. I am also putting cash down when I get on the ship, but I hope if there is any left I will get it back-maybe I shouldn't do the OBC ahead of time?!?!?!?

Don't worry about it. The few times we didn't prepay grats, they have been taken out of the OBC we had with FSDs. If you don't use all your OBC you will get a check back at the end of the cruise. They are not a use it or lose it.

Once the Funship dollars are applied-- they are applied as cash.

You can use them to pay tips, in the Casino, anywhere onboard the ship.

you will get a check the last night of the cruise for any remaining balance.

Do they expire? I received some at Christmas last year, but I forgot to bring them with me on my cruise ....

the ones I have this year do not have an expiration date.

It may have been two years-- maybe last year they did have one. It will be under the date of issue/ You want to check it- they are also good for payment of a cruise

1st time cruising and I don't understand what any of this means. Should I put $$ on my account before we sail? if so - how far in advance? What is OBC and FSD? Can I pay the tips in advance? How do I do any of this - should I call Carnival?

Are you booked directly with carnival? if using a private agent then carnival will not speak to you without your agent.

You can pay tips in advance after your final payment.

Prepaying tips means less of a sign and sail bill at the end.

the reason i put $$ on my account ahead of time--- pre-paying as much as possible means I have no bill at the end. Nor will I be carrying around cash while traveling.

I purchase funship dollars each pay for 25.00. It accumulates nicely and I do not miss 25.00 at a time.

I purchase my excursions ahead of time- I try to prepay as much as possible for our vacations

when is your cruise

Hubby & I are Going Sept 11th on Miracle - Can't wait!! Thanks for the advice. Does the Funship $$ have your name on it and do they charge a fee for it?

No, there is a spot there to write in the name of the person.

2 check boxes-- one for onboard credit or cruise payment.

there is a message on the paper that is personalized

They used to come with heavy fancy carnival envelopes but I think they did away with those
