While in port at Ashdod (Jerusalem)

I will be in port at Ashdod Israel for 2.5 days on Celebrity Silhouette. While in port, can one leave/return to ship 24 hours a day? Has anyone been in this port? I understand it is very big and one has to get from the port gate to the ship by shuttle. Does it run 24/7? I was thinking of renting a car for the 2.5 days to be able to travel to Jerusalem, etc. Has anyone had experience with this? Is there a place to park the car overnight in Ashdod?

Any advice will be appreciated.
