Having just got back from a Med cruise found his cruise book very very helpful. A DiY cruiser in the Med needs to be even better prepared than a land traveler. We've been to Europe many times for land trips so can make the comparison - you have a limited amount of time and you must be back to port on time.

We were still debating our options for getting into Venice as we left the ship. But, we were off early - no one was in line for the M boat that he said to take. It took off with just 4 other passengers and we beat the shuttles and excursions to St. Marks - no lines at the church and had Doges also done first day. So next day we could do his Vaporetto tour in a leisurly way getting into city. Walked back both days just exploring city. Books advice was dead on.

Also loved the handy dandy chart for the French Riviera transportation options. Book is great tool to use along with the CC port boards - the gang there is great for answering all the nitty gritty little questions.
