Leaving luggage on board

 Hi P&Oers,

As a newbie to P&O cruises I am hoping an experienced person can help with this query about luggage.

I will be doing part of a cruise round South America with Adonia next year, leaving the ship in New Orleans and travelling on through the USA, eventually reaching Vancouver about a month after the ship will have returned to Southampton.

I would like to leave a case on board and have it delivered to a friends house by "The Baggage Company". The P&O website says it is possible to leave luggage on board, but at the discretion of the ship. EEK! What if they say no? I do not want to lug a case full of posh frocks and dinner suits on my fly drive extension.

Can anyone tell me if they have done anything like this and how easy it was to arrange. Thank you very much in anticipation of help.

They always have the caveat "at the discretion of the ship" but we have always found them able to do it. At some stage on each leg you will get a flyer asking you to complete a form if you want the service.

Or you can ask at reception as soon as you get on to make sure :-)

A baggage desk is set up a day or two before port you have your bag weighed and fill in a customs declaration and leave them teh key or a note of the combination pay your money and that's it. It is about £35 per case and one case per person.

They wil also arrange delivery home, I think the cost was about £3/4 a kilo, but I may have misremembered that as we have always collected ours.

Thanks again Jo,

Looks like we can just leave behind everything we don't need and have it delivered to our friend so we can pick it up on our return.

Now all I need to do is decide how many posh frocks to take for 69 nights, ha ha!

Cheers x
