anniecat Posted April 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2005 does anyone know where there are internet cafe's/libraries with visitor web access etc in Juneau/Ketchikan/Sitka/Skagway/Victoria/Seattle/SF/Catalina? Since web access on board is sooooo expensive, I'm looking for an alternative. Any ideas out there?

Starbuck1 Posted April 6, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Here's the scoop on where to cyber-hook-up in Victoria - James Bay Coffe & Books 5 terminals available. It's a walkable 5 or 6 blocks from the ship in James Bay. http://www.cybercafeinternet.com/jamesbayinternet/index.htm There are other places in town, but this is the closest to the pier. Some of the others have strange hours of operation, and are further away from the inner harbour. You can find them all listed at http://www.cybercafeinternet.com/  Starbuck
trish22 Posted April 7, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2005 Does anyone know what the connection is (wired high speed, dial-up, wireless, etc) for Celebrity's in-cabin Internet kit? I'm sailing the Summit in August and am bringing my wee little 2lb laptop (for pictures and such). I don't have a problem with the rental fees for the connection for the duration of the cruise, I just don't want to pay big bucks for s l o w access. And I swear Celebrity's site makes it sound like dial-up... Thanks!
aussie jb Posted April 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 7, 2005 Starbuck, I have to say your mention of James Bay Coffee and Books bought back lots of good memories. I spent ages in there! great coffee too! As for the internet in the 3 ports, they're called Seaport Cyber and it was $5 for an hour (last Sept.) Starbuck1 Posted April 8, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2005 Hey Aussie JB! Did you live in Victoria for awhile, or just hang out in James Bay on your port stop? When's your next cruise? Starbuck
aussie jb Posted April 9, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 9, 2005 Starbuck, I do live in Victoria - it's just unfortunate that it's not the one in Canada :) We stayed in there for a few days last year after a 6 week trip of Alaska and Canada (including cruise). We stayed at Shamrock Suites, so it was only a short walk to get to J.B Books, which was close to the laundromat/food/post office and liquor store. It was a great place to sit with your coffee and watch the world go by. We'll be heading back that way in a couple of years - once was certainly not enough, and there is a LOT more to see! Starbuck1 Posted April 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2005 JB - Victoria, Sydney/Sidney - a wierd coincidence! God, we've been meaning to plan a month in Australia for eons.. must JUST DO IT! Life is far too short. Would love to fly into Cairns and drive down the coast... Okay, make that 2 months! Hope you make it back soon! Did you get up the west coast to Tofino? It's my favorite place on earth - if you haven't been, plan 2 or 3 days for surfing, beachcombing or storm-watching. Take care mate! Starbuck
