Hi All

We are back from the good ship IE after her final sail of the year, so here is my mini review…

The bad... As most have said… The cabins need a good old redecorate, the curtains need replacing with something cheap clean & canvas… & get rid of that creepy old shredded & stained valance around the beds… The cabin bathrooms need ripping out &replacing… The bathroom was permanently a bit whiffy from the drains, tiles were stained, broken & discoloured with mostly very old fittings... The ship lacks a proper tiered theatre & the main show lounge is too small.:(

The Good… As most have said … The public areas are OK with good layout. The deck 8 premier cabin was of good size with loads of cupboard & draw space, the staff were brilliant, the entertainment was about the best I have seen on a cruise ship as was the food . (Chose to eat mostly in the Beachcomber as the food was the same as the Island restaurant but less hurried &more space to move.):)

The unexpected … Had a nearly new, white enamelled washbasin & new toilet seat in bathroom, so didn’t matter much what the rest looked like, the bits you touched most were new. The cabin came with a new electronic safe that opened with a fob. (Still cost extra though) We had an LCD TV (though still tiny) & wait for it… There was a dirty great hairdryer with its lead clamped to the dresser already in the room, (must be a premier cabin thing though as everyone else was borrowing the tiny ones from reception) … & the greatest surprise... there were three flavours of ice cream provided for free in the evenings at the Beachcomber.:D

… So yes we both enjoyed it & will be sailing with her again. The only real downer is that my next leave is in February & the ship will still be in dock.:)

Looks like she is now off to Cadiz ship repair port?

That’s right RR, the Captain said he was on his way to Cadiz.

It was kind of sad to see the ship preparing to go out of service. By the last day the shelves in the shops had been cleared & there was a pile of boxes in the watch shop labelled up to go to the Celebration. The casino had its slot machines all covered with cling film, & as we left, the room steward was taking the closet curtains down. The steward said he had another 10 days work on the ship before going home. The entertainments & officer type staff seemed to be looking forward to a long Christmas break… But the rumours on the ship said that most of the serving staff would be losing out heavily on the wage they depend on to feed their families. Those poor hard working people did not even seem certain to be back next year as they all seemed to want you to know their names for the good service “Oscars”. The word on the ship was if they did not get the commendations they may not be getting a new contract.
