Snorkeling in Cozumel

My first choice is Dzul Ha. No entry fee and the best snorkelling on the island. You'll be expected to consume something in food and/or beverage while you're there. Easy to do as snorkelling is "thirsty work"!

There are 3 piers in Cozumel. Dzul Ha is about 2 miles from the International and Puerta Maya piers and about 6 miles from the Punta Langosta pier. The boat tours to the specific reefs Tom recommends leave from various locations.

We snorkeled at Dzul-Ha 2 days ago and had a so-so experience. Yes, the snorkeling and atmoshphere at the place were awesome. However, we had our 7YO daughter with us and after spending $40 to rent all the snorkel gear, vests, locker, etc. we figured out that the current was so strong that day that it was nearly impossible to go much more than 50 feet out.

It was an overcast and windy day, but I wish the staff had had the courtesy to let us know that snorkeling with a small child might be difficult in such current. We tried for about an hour then ate some lunch and left.

I would love to go back again on a calm day b/c we saw some huge gorgeous fish and sea fans and such very close to the shore, so I can only imagine what it would be like out on the reef.

Just a warning, I guess, pay attention to the weather, and ask about the current before deciding to go in.
