STLPilot Posted January 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Planning on bringing a French press, beans and a Kyocera hand grinder on the Serena this coming Wednesday for fresh French press each morning. Question, are there plenty of locations to find hot water for tea/coffee, not limited to staterooms? Of course I could bring electric hot water pot or just buy one in Rome, but if they have them in the stateroom areas, all the better. Thx!
G.M.T. Posted January 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2012 The only place hot water is available is in the buffet area. All electrical appliances that can generate heat (hair dryers, kettles, heating elements) are strictly forbidden by Costa. The electrical circuits are not built for such equipment as the present a grave fire hazard. Ron
Whitby Lass Posted January 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2012 GMT is certainly correct in respect of cruises in the Med. However I was pleasantly surprised to find an electric kettle and tea and coffee making stuff in our cabin on our last cruise on Classica in the Far East. Does not make sense! Capricruiser Posted January 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Ron, what's a French press? The Samsara cabins on the newer ships have electric kettles but in this case the specific cabins' electrical capacity was increased when the ships were built. When we were on the Classica, I had to nick stuff from the buffet so that DW could get her caffein fix before breakfast arrived. Classica is a much older ship than Serena, built to different standards. G.M.T. Posted January 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Chuck, A French Press, is where you ground coffee into a glass container, add boiling water, then apply the press to seperate coffee (liquid) from thje coffee gounds. Ron PS. Chuck, you have been too long isolated on Capri.:)
Capricruiser Posted January 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks Ron, and you're right. I can tell you all about an espresso pot. From looking at your photo and recipe for coffee making, I think I'll stick with espresso.
G.M.T. Posted January 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Chuck, I'll join you for an expresso any day rather than the French stuff (actually never tried it - DW is not very technical). Ron

We call them cafetieres in the UK, either glass/plastic with a plunger.
