Shipboard Account

We have only taken one other cruise on Carnival. With the documents we received for that cruise, there was a paper to fill out prior to the cruise to open the onboard account. When does this happen with Norwegian? Do you give them a credit card when you're boarding the ship?

Immargaret, it seems like every time I ask this question I get a different answer, but since you were on the Sea and that's what we will be on you should know. Again last week I was told that your account is set up after you board (which is the way it was in 2000 when we were on the Sea) is that not correct? All other lines have accounts setup when you check in (originally). Is this for all passengers regardless of whether they are setting up their account with cash or credit card?

Anyone else had recent experience opening up an account on board?

Seems like out last two NCL crusies had the on-board charge actiated pier side. On a newer ship it normally is done that way since your room key-card and charge card are one and the same.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was hoping it was done at boarding so we wouldn't have to go through any hassle after we boarded. After we board, I want to forget about everything!

Deb, here's a tip.

I just got off HAL's Maasdam a week ago. They still activate charges on board. When a ship is set up like that they normally give you the full first day to set it up before they come to track you down.

I wait until the eveing of the first night at sea, about midnight, 12:30. At that point there is no line and the front desk officer is happy for any kind of diversion, including getting you set up.

I've also found that after 1 am is a good time to see if the ship is really sold out. We were on Nor. Majesty and had a horrible inside cabin aft that smelled like, well, it smelled. We wer told repeatedly that they were sold out and no cabins were available.

Finally, I could take it no more and went back to the desk hoping for some kind of compensation. Instead the officer gave me keys to three additional cabins and told me to take my pick. Persistance paired with timing and a pleasant demeanor paid off.

Have a great time!!
