Going on the Gem January next year to the Caribbean, does anyone know when it would be warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, pool?? Two days at sea before you get to Puerto Rico seems like a long time to be holed up somewhere.

My TA said by second day it should be warm enough but he's in Miami so what would he know about leaving from New York in January!

Wording is where you might get confused. A lot of people saying leaving the port is not consider a first day but it actually is. As soon you leave NYC then sleep the first night, the next day will be little warmer. He actual correct. Also when you are in the cabin, turn on the captain channel that show the location of the ship. If you see the ship pass Norfolk, Va then you are in warmer climate. I done this in December 2011 on the Jewel to bahamas

We're on the Jewel leaving NY this weekend and it's supposed to snow. I'll be enjoying the outdoors as we pull away from the dock, with a martini in one hand and a snowball in the other.

As to warmth, who can say what the weather will be next January? I'd say your first full sea day probably will not be reaching 70 degrees, but you never know.

I don't think you'll be "holed up," there's lots to do and it'll be a lot warmer off the coast of North Carolina than NY.

Weather do change a lot in less then a year or so. In 2010, we had a blizzard in the tri-state area the day after christmas. Most of the people was predicting a repeat which never happen. Since that didn't happen, i told my dad i bet it come day after new year. NOTHING. So it impossible to predict weather in future. We also had arctic cold for two days in beginning of the week, then weekend came it in the 50. How you explain that sudden change? Noone know except for one special person.

I can understand that it might be a little chilly out of NYC. However, it sounds as if the next morning when you wake up it is at least t-shirt weather typically. So with that in mind my question is where exactly is the ship in relation to the U.S. Coast when you wake up (presuming 8:00 AM or so)?
