What to take to St. John

What necessities do I need to take with me to St. John? This is what I'm thinking:

- beach towel

- sun screen

- cash

- copies of identification

 

I plan on renting the snorkeling equipment.

That should take care of you on the beach, provided you go someplace where you can buy food and drink, such as Trunk or Cinnamon. If you go in to town to shop, eat, drink, or just wander around while you're waiting to catch the ferry back to St. Thomas, make sure that you have a cover up or shirt to wear in addition to your swimsuit.

Thanks for all the tips on what to take. We plan on a bit of beach time and some good snorkelling. We do not want to take the ships tour so what is the best way to get to St John if you do it on your own (time to take ferry going and returning) and what is the preferred beach for snorkelling ?
