What type of documents?

For your particular cruise, a birth certificate (with raised or colored seal) and a government issued photo ID (driver's license or something similar) will suffice. However, you do have time to get a passport which is going to be required in the not too distant future and IMHO is more convenient and preferable as a form of official ID. If you divide the cost by the number of years a passport is valid, you will find the expense really isn't bad, and with one you will be able to journey almost anywhere in the world on a moment's notice. :)
