mgscruiser Posted January 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2012 We're taking a RCCL cruise to Alaska this coming May and need to find a way to get from Seattle to Vancouver. Flights are proving to be a little too expensive for us right now (about $200pp for a one-way!), I know Amtrak works or we could rent a car. If we do Amtrak, how to get to the hotel from the train station? (Same with a car once it's dropped off!) Thoughts? THANK YOU!
ajhunt2 Posted January 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2012 Taxi would be the best bet to get from hotel/station then station/airport You get a more senic view from the train. However make sure you have PLENTY of time for buffer area between the train and your departing flight. We booked the last Southwest flight of the day out of Seattle but our train broke down 3 times so we missed it and had to spend another night in Seattle at a hotel airport, and miss another day of work. mapleleaves Posted January 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2012 if your hotel is at the airport, there will be taxis at the Amtrak station and the ride to SeaTac will be about $35. If you rent a car, you're paying a hefty one way drop off fee so you might as drop it at the most convenient place which is probably the airport. Other options to consider depending on how many people in your group and schedule: Amtrak Cascades offers train and bus service. http://www.amtrakcascades.com/Schedules.htm There's also Quick Coach bus service between Vancouver and SeaTac. http://www.quickcoach.com/schedule.htm Does RCI offer transfers? Budget Queen Posted January 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2012 Transfers- one way rental car, taxi is direct for the pick up/drop off. but also in Vancouver you can walk or if an airport return, take the Skytrain. In Seattle, the lightrail is also available., for Amtrak. Quick Shuttle has airport and downtown pick ups. Cruiselines usually have a bus as well. mgscruiser Posted January 25, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted January 25, 2012 OK, thanks everyone! We are going Vancouver to Seattle, so we need to get to Vancouver to depart on the cruise, our thought right now is to fly to Seattle on Thursday, take the train/bus/whatever Thursday night, and then the cruise leaves on Friday. That way we have enough time "just in case" something might happen! I will look into the options you listed mapleleaves, thank you!
arlodog Posted January 25, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2012 We rented a car and paid the one way drop off fee--but there were 4 of us to split the cost with so it really wasn't so bad. We arrived the day before and spent the night by the airport and drove to Vancouver the next morning. The drive was easy and we really didn't have a long wait at the border. We dropped the other 2 at the ship's terminal along with the luggage and dropped the car off at a downtown location and took a taxi back. It cost about $10 for the taxi including tip. We did the reverse going back to Seattle and stayed downtown and spent time at Pike's market. Drove to the airport the next morning.
