Thanks for that Mike, I have just checked and its the same on Virgin 211 & 212. Just set the infernal machine to record.
It seems to have a sub title of Alien Mystery's. Strangely my machine suggests it is a series so I have told it to record the series , probably get the same programme about ten times. Me and technology don't mix.
For those who have access, watch the Discovery Channel tonight at 10:00pm EST

"Discovery will air a one-hour special, called "Inside Raising the Concordia," that captures the major salvage operation taking place to raise the Costa Concordia, ...
In this one-hour special, Discovery will show how the TITAN-Micoperi engineers prepped for the job, which included building colossal barges complete with a hospital, gym and living quarters for the hundreds of divers and specialists. ....."
I saw this claim the other day about "building barges"
As before umpteenth times, the world's best congregation of armchair experts of this marvellous thread knows better: ASV Pioneer was not built for this purpose, possibly configured yes, but not built. Full details are here http://www.ferguson-group.com/ferguson-asv/products/

ASV (=Accommodation Service Vessel) can be configured according to the needs. In this case, according to the owner's press release:

Ferguson Group’s accommodation service vessel, ASV Pioneer, has been deployed in the Mediterranean Sea on a six-month contract with Titan-Micoperi in support of the Costa Concordia Salvage operation.

The Ferguson Group specialists in the rental of containers, accommodation modules and engineering modules to the offshore energy industry took delivery of their first accommodation service vessel during 2011, which has now secured its second contract since launch.

The ASV Pioneer provides an accommodation complex including 2 person cabins complete with en-suite facilities, galley, mess, Gym, medical and recreational facilities, manufactured to DNV 2.7-1/EN12079 standards. In addition the vessel provides a large working open deck area measuring 1100m2 with a load capacity of 15 tonnes/m2.

The new contract, with Titan-Micoperi, is for the ASV Pioneer to provide a support role to the salvage operation including provision of accommodation for up to 90 team members, plus deck space for specialist equipment for the salvage operation. Titan Salvage with their partner Micoperi, are industry leaders in global salvage response and are involved in the removal of the wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which partially sank in January 2012 after hitting a reef off the Italian coast and running aground at Isola del Giglio.

Graham Cowperthwaite, Executive Director of the Ferguson Group said: “The ASV Pioneer is the first accommodation service vessel launched by the Ferguson Group and the team are very pleased with securing this latest contract, which once again demonstrates the flexibility of the Pioneer as a vessel that can be used for various tasks in several Industry sectors providing high quality accommodation and ample deck space.

“With the ASV Pioneer having previously supported a renewables contract in the North Sea and now being involved in supporting a salvage operation in the Mediterranean Sea, it is proving to be a versatile and flexible vessel. Going forward we envisage securing contracts covering a variety of projects that make best use of the vessel’s mix of accommodation and open deck configuration.”

Not built fro this purpose, and not for hundreds of people, just 90.
But impressive how they do this, modular containers matched together for accommodation, galley, medic room, gym etc etc

I seemed to spend Monday and Tuesday shouting "rubbish" at the TV as yet another YTS reporter spouted another load of nonsense.
As I remember M30 and M61 also have accommodation facilities and in the last few days it appears that a number of workers have taken out long leases on land based properties including Nick Sloane.
I've searched the threads but I can't find an answer to the question:

Where's the rock?

You know, THAT rock.
A large portion of the rock was returned to the sea in the location it came from. It was done on the 1 year anniversary during a memorial program and had a plaque with the 32 victims names on it.

Wonder why it took 20 months to suspend -- the timing seems strange -- that it coincided with the righting of the ship. They should have permanently revoked the license IMO.

Will you be watching the Discovery Channel on the recovery tonight? Let us know your thoughts.

Clive, I hope you get the show. I thought they did a good job of explaining the process for the one hour they had to do so.
What you'll really be proud of me for is that a couple of times my son texted me with questions and I was able to answer them. :D

Oh dear, I will certainly watch it first before I judge myself, but the following comment from the Discovery website makes me wonder what to expect:

(QUOTE)You didn't miss anything! You can see more online than is revealed on this "show". Pure drek. If you hoped to gain deeper knowledge about the engineering behind each stage, this will fall far short of delivering any true or new info. As soon as they showed interesting action, they interrupted it and stopped for a commercial. With bad, faux dramatic muzak included. Then they repeated the very same data again after the break-- and suddenly switched from filmed activity to a graphic. Like viewers couldn't have already see THAT online. It was worse than a reality show, IMHO. It was like watching the timelapse video cut into bits and shown again and again. Don't bother....(UNQUOTE)

I saw the show last night and for being just one hour, put together and edited in less than a week I think it was quite good. One hour (actually some 45 minutes) where a part was spent telling the background story of the accident, and half of the other part was dedicated to explaining the work needed prior to parbuckling did not leave much time for the actual parbuckling part and to cover what is going to happen next. This is material for a two hour special. For people like us who have been watching this day by day there is nothing new. But for the average person that had forgotten about this oor were amazed that this ship was still there (that's the kind of comment I constantly saw locally when the news was covered by local media) the program has lots of new info.

Did anyone notice a case of mistaken identity?

It was interesting to see the underwater video they showed with the anchor blocks. Next I would really like to see underwater video at some point of the ship resting on the platforms.

In my earlier post (1803) when I mentioned that Discovery would have this show I suggested that we may see old footage. I guess they wanted the newlyweds and CA family for the human drama of the night. They could have done without that and used the time for more prep and parbuckle operations. For the time we had and the speed with which it aired, it was good.
Could this list be caused by the several thousand tons of Caissons and water and when the starboard side has its caissons and port side caissons are emptied will she sit level in water?
Thanks Clive. Are the anchor blocks and chains/cables still holding the CC in place or is it the weight of the ship enough to prevent any further list?

True, right on cue, absolutely no surprises here. He's blaming the only non-Italian who will not be traveling to Italy for the trial and who experts have determined whatever he did or didn't do wouldn't have made one bit of difference in preventing or causing the accident. Blaming the helmsman, IMO, is on par with blaming a dead person -- the poor guy can't defend himself -- he neither has the funds nor the language skills.

The next trial hearing is scheduled for October 7 according to the Italian press. The witnesses will be Giovanni Iaccarino, officer, Simone Canessa, official cartographer, and Salvatore Ursino, another officer. Domnica Cemortan, will also provide testimony but it's not clear if she will actually be present. She did give press interviews and spoke glowingly of Schettino on a morning TV program this a.m. in Italy. She mentioned in the interview she is writing a book as well.......stay tuned.
