BeneClone Posted February 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2012 We're novice cruisers - had the trip of a lifetime on Pride of America. We wanted to cruise in the Carribean and couldn't go until May. By then NCL is gone elsewhere. Does anyone know why?
Azure Moon Posted February 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Hello and welcome to Cruise Critic. It's awesome that you had a great cruise on Pride of America . There are quite a few NCL fans who wish there were some summer cruises to the Caribbean. Here are some links to threads that talk about this. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1571885&highlight=no+summer+cruises+in+caribbean http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1522823&highlight=no+summer+cruises+in+caribbean http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1541953&highlight=no+summer+cruises+in+caribbean http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1439965&highlight=no+summer+cruises+in+caribbean Wish I could give you better news... Thanks for the links. It's a business and as one poster wrote: "So if you're running a cruise line, where do you position your assets (your ships) in the summer? Where they can command the highest fares...Bermuda, Alaska and Europe, or, where you would have to charge a lower fare, the Caribbean?" We're traveling with my DD the graduate student and May is the only option. We're cruising on Carnival to the Western Carribean. Somebody may come back. We noticed that our pricing acted like there was no competition. On the plus side - in our four ports we are the only ship in two and there are two in the others. We'll see how that plays out. Sunkissed Mommy Posted February 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Hurricane season The busy portion of Hurricane Season is actually August-October. We rarely get storms in June/July. It' only about money. Unfortunately, it gives Carnival the advantage because they are the only ones running the Caribbean in the summer other than RCI's big sister ships. So prices are high. I agree it is about the money and putting your resources where they are going to make you the most. NCL has 11 ships, Carnival has about 23. Therefore Carnival has double the amount of ships to spread around.
VideoTech Posted February 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Yes indeed: Money makes the world go round. We're sorry to see NCL leaving the Caribbean in the summer, as, like many others, that's the best time for a vacation for us. We're not going back to Carnival though!
