LishaD Posted April 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2005 I am going on the Millie to the W. Med. in about a month. I have gotten a lot of tips on how to barter, but not when. I thought it was only appropriate in markets and such, but some posts state doing it in shops as well. I will be in Paris, Venice, Dubrovnik, Athens, Santorini, Naples, Rome, Florence, Villefranche, and Barcelona. Any tips? LishaD
Leejnd4 Posted April 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Great question! I would also love to hear those tips on HOW to barter. And does it differ in different ports? Should I barter in a different manner in, say Agadir vs. Barcelona? We leave in less than a week, so I would love to see some lively discussion on this topic before I go. Thanks! :) LeeAnne
Susan-M Posted April 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Just wondered if you meant "negotiate" or "barter"? Bartering is trading one item, or service, for another, eg. if you bring t-shirts to trade for shoes.
Leejnd4 Posted April 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Maybe the correct term is "haggle"? Anyway, that's what I mean. LeeAnne
LishaD Posted April 23, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Sorry, I meant haggling too. I was even looking at my Haggler's handbook list I got from somewhere. Maybe We should start another thread.LishaD
