Bartering

I am going on the Millie to the W. Med. in about a month. I have gotten a lot of tips on how to barter, but not when. I thought it was only appropriate in markets and such, but some posts state doing it in shops as well.

 

I will be in Paris, Venice, Dubrovnik, Athens, Santorini, Naples, Rome, Florence, Villefranche, and Barcelona. Any tips?

Great question! I would also love to hear those tips on HOW to barter. And does it differ in different ports? Should I barter in a different manner in, say Agadir vs. Barcelona?

Just wondered if you meant "negotiate" or "barter"? Bartering is trading one item, or service, for another, eg. if you bring t-shirts to trade for shoes.

Maybe the correct term is "haggle"? Anyway, that's what I mean.
