Is there an App for that?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anyone has experience using apps for walking tours, city guides, etc. What experience did you have and what app did you buy?

I've used city guide apps for both Montreal and Boston. Frankly, didn't find them all that useful. I'm sure it depends on the app. And of course, if the app requires an Internet connection, overseas roaming charges can be astronomical.

I'm still at the early stages of doing my research for this trip, but these two are the "official" apps for Oslo and Aarhus. They're free, so I downloaded both of them. Whether they're of any use remains to be seen.

This app can be used even when data roaming is turned off. Not sure about the Aarhus one.

I also stumbled accross an app called Ship Mate http://shipmateapp.com/

Not free, $2.99, I believe. It contains deck maps, port info, ship tracking, and other tools, I've already used it to explore the ship in a larger scale than the tiny print diagrams available in print and online.
