Beaches near Cozumel cruise terminal?

From what I've been reading on here I'm learning that unfortunatley there are no beaches right within walking distance once docking. I just learned we are docking at Puerta Maya crusie port. We're beach bums, not shoppers--so we always head straight for the beach. This will be our first time traveling to an island where a beach isn't in walkiing distance. What is the cloest beach? And are there available taxis? I've never had to use a taxi on island before so I'm a little confused at the process. approx cost of those taxis?

Lines of cabs waiting at the pier, with a price list posted for 1-4 passengers (so team up with other cruisers to save $$ ;)). About a 15 minute $15 cab ride to most of the popular beach clubs (Paradise, Mr. Sanchos, Nachi Cocom, etc.)
