tmann4 Posted April 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2012 Last week on the 3-24 sailing there was a medical emergency. The captain came on the speakers and said we were turning the ship around and heading back toward NOLA and a US Coast Guard helicopter would meet us part way. This was around noon. The helicopter arrived around 2:50pm and landed on the helipad at the front of the ship. They had everyone leave all the open decks on the front of the ship for safety so you can't see the US Coast Guard helicopter on the pad. However, below are some pictures of the helicopter. A man had a heart attach and they airlifted him back to New Orleans. Once he was off the ship the captain turned the ship back toward Jamaica. You can see on the ship map the loop we made aloung our way to Jamaica. The captain made an annoucement later the man had surgery and survived. Desertbelle Posted April 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2012 We have been on two cruises where a helicopter rescue was done, two where a boat was used and at least three where someone was taken away in an ambulance at a port. Sick people all the time on ships that hold thousands of people.

Jman1118 Posted April 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2012 When I was on the Carnival Dream, we had a medical evacuation. Carnival ships do not have helipads, so everyone had to clear the top decks as a safety precaution. The Coast Guard lowered a basket and that is how the sick passenger was removed. Good thing we were only about twenty miles of the coast of the Florida keys, otherwise that passenger would be in some hospital in Mexico.
