Tell Me About The Ecstasy

Recommended Posts

I'm booked to leave out on July 2nd on the Ecstasy, it is my second cruise, but my girlfriends 1st.... I know nothing really about the ship, or the port in Galveston, but if anyone would like to help me out I would appreciate it greatly! Would be nice to find people going on this same cruise too!

Wellllllllll!! Where do I begin, if you have ever been to Los Vegas and loved the bright colors you will love the ship. I really ddn't like the colors at first but either they grow on you or what happened to me I was having so much fun I forgot about them. One thing I did love was the blue lighting in the area of the Royal Royce Cafe. It was great at night. The water was really rough when we went, and that is about the only thing that I didn't like about the cruise. Bingo, Casino (won $500), sunbathing, slide (went down once even though I am 34). The spa treatment were way out of my price range, but you can go to the steam room all you want. Do it atleast once it makes you feel relaxed and refreshed. Don't even get me started on the food WONDERFUL!!!!!!! If you like to dance you will have fun in all the bars. They are a little crowded but boogy down anyway. While you are in Galveston go to the beach the sand is so light and powdery(?) Hope you have fun!!!!!

First of all let me just say, I LOVE YOUR SCREEN NAME!!!!!

We were on the Ecstasy in February and we're going again in July but not until the 30th so we won't be on the same cruise with you. You can post on the roll call forum and find folks that are cruising with you.

I posted a long review when we came back in February. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will be happy to answer them if I can. Here is the link to my review. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=140373&highlight=ecstasy

Just remember that any cruise is what you make of it. We love cruising and found that our first cruise on the Fantasy (a sister ship to the Ecstasy) was enough to get us addicted! Have a great time!

We just got of the Ecstasy on Thursday. It was a good time. The ship was a little rocky and rolling most of the time. I usually do not suffer from motion sickness but a couple of days I did take Bonine. A lot of cruiser were wearing the patch behind the ear. The food was good. We ate most breakfast and lunch in the panorama grill on the lido deck. They had an amazing dessert display at lunch. I thought most of them were even better than the dining room. The shows were good. But I was not pleased in the Extreme country when in the last half the female dancers were in thongs. If I had children with me I would have been very upset. I did not think it added anything to the show. The Dancers are great in their on way and did not need this. Call me a prude if you want. Just my opinion.

We had a wonderful cabin steward. It was just like a little elf was in our room. It was always clean and the two problems we had were address immediately.

In Cozumel, we took the Jeep Adventure to Paradise. It is a very bumby jeep ride and then we ended at Passion Island. It was so nice and restful and beautiful. In Calica most of the water excursions were canceled due to very rough seas. We just took a taxi into Playa del Carmen and went to the beach.

If you have any questions, email me at jrh1953.

I've been on her only once, just before she left LA.

The ship is simply awful looking. The neon lights are pretty gross, even by dingy Vegas standards. The buffet area wings were illuminated with black lights which make for creepy late night eating.

That is about all I can say bad. The service (dining room, cabin) and food quality were the best I have ever had on any CCL ship. I was priviliged as I might have been among the last to enjoy assigned seating for breakfast and lunch (remember that?), something that has been eliminated fleetwide. I was so impressed that I bought some CCL the following week and booked the Glory. The Glory was good, and the Victory that I went on last christmas was ok, but service and food on the Ecstacy was still the best.

We sailed on the Ecstasy 4/9 and I thought the thongs were GREAT!!! I know Carnival targets families, but that doesn't mean that every single venue has to make kids the common denominator. On our cruise several women were wearing thongs at the pool. Should they be banned lest kids may see them? Ever notice the circulars in the Sunday paper? They actually show -- oh my!-- women in 'intimate apparel', bras, and panties. Perhaps Macy's, Kohl's et al should be forced to put a warning on the flyer.

On this board recently, there was a person who took exception to the "hooker vs. nun" question in the Not-So-Newly-Wed game because she brought her 10 year old.

If a movie today had a scene with women wearing thongs and the word hooker was used, I'm not sure that would be enough to go from G to PG. Maybe. But certainly no more than that.

Look, I respect every parent's right to control/limit what their kids are exposed to. Not enough parents do. But if you want a cruise line to help you do that, try Disney.

Just my view.
