Why purchase FCC and stock just for a small amount of credit?

I bought my first FCC on the last cruise (early February this year) and am VERY excited by the return on investment there! We have to book within 2 years and sail within 3, so that's doable. Going to go in 2014 and call it good!

We also bought Carnival stock after we left the ship. It was still down relatively low because of the Concordia incident, so 100 shares was $3,050. We've already received one dividend and we're set to DRIP. My stock is now worth $3,284. While that rate isn't going to hurtle me toward retirement, I'm not even 40 yet. I have plenty of years during which to get shipboard credit for owning the stock. And in the grand scheme of investments, $3,000 was an easy decision.
