We will be sailing on Carnival Glory on 05/14/05. Our ship will be docked for only A half day in Nassau on a Sun. 5/15 We were wondering if we could get ot Pearl Island on our own. Also How long will we need, if we are able to do this, our ship will only be in port between 8:30- 2:00. Also, can any one recommend a good snorkeling spot in Nassau besides Pearl Island? Any info would be great! Thanks!!!:D

We did the Pearl Islands Snorkeling on our 4/16 Glory sailing. Not worth the money IMHO. Snorkeling was terrible. Nothing else to do on the island except sun. The stingray adventure was pretty lame also, the stingrays were penned in shallow water like a petting zoo.

Another option is Atlantis. If you would like a preview, you can view my pictures from last year. Do a random search using "webshots". Pick the second site shown "Webshots Photo Gallery". On that screen, go to top and using PHOTO SEARCH, type RICHFRET. My pictures will come up and Atlantis is on page 2. If you like to snorkel, you would like the sea life at Atlantis.

If you decide to do this, take the land taxi and not the water taxi. It is just a short ride for about $4 or $5. It you walk around, you can see most of the hotel and about a third of the fish tanks for free. It you want to see it all, it will cost you near $30. So it can cost practically nothing or big bucks. The architecture is outstanding and impressive. There is also a casino. You can easily spend a couple of hours. If you decide to eat there, bring lots of bucks. There are also exclusive shops (for the gals).

We did this last year and plan to see it again this year.

I'll second richfret's comments: We have cruise mates that did the Atlantis tour and had a fantastic time. I'm not suggesting that there are no good excursions in Nassau, simply that we didn't feel that anything on Pearl Island was worth the time or money spent. YMMV of course.
