Detailed Review of Triumph w/ Lots of Pics, 4/28 Sailing!

I forgot to mention, there ended up being 23 teams of 2 playing. So we made it past the first round, onto the second round, and then onto the third....we got beat by 1 durn point for the finals. So we came in 3rd overall. That wasn't bad considering mom had never played!! LOL

We decided to go hang out on the Lido deck for awhile, so off we went. Tonight was formal night, so we were taking it easy until we had to shower and get all fixed up.....so about 7:00pm, we headed to the room, fixed up and headed to dinner. This was the ONLY piture we bought on the ship. It is $24.95 for the proof (which is always the 8 x 10 size) and then $9.99 for any other size same as or smaller. Here we are, all dressed up for the night. This is a picture of a picture, so quality is probably not the best, but you can get the general idea:

As you go on more and more cruises you learn the backgrounds are about identical from ship to ship. So just a tid bit for the newbies! :)

Here is mom in the London Main Dining Room:

The waiters and maitr'e d's sang to everyone tonight, here they are:

The more I cruise, the more excited I get about cruising. I just booked the Triumph (again). We will be leaving May 26 (Memorial Day weekend). I love your review so far. It will make my 18 days go quickly by reading your review. :-)

Yes, there is something addicting about cruising!! Oh that will be so fun cruising on Memorial day!!! Yes, as fast as time goes by, 18 days will be nothing!! I hope to have my review done well before then! ;)

On another note, will you be going to the casino at all? My mother and I had an awesome blackjack dealer we wanted to stay in touch with but we forgot to exchange email addresses. Even if you don't gamble, would you mind giving him my email address? We had so much fun with him as our dealer, most dealers are so dry and boring but we just loved playing with him and his humor!! I would be forever grateful if you would do that!! :)

More review coming soon!!!!!........

First POC - Progresso, Yucatan:

Back to the review.......so today I will review our first port of call - Progresso, Yucatan!

A little background info....we were a little hesitant about this port, like a couple others we had heard it wasn't the best place, etc., etc......so usually if its a good, innocent place - like Grand Cayman, then we book on our own instead of with Carnival. So this trip we decided on the Progresso poc, that we should book with Carnival....so that is what we did.

We had purchased the "All Inclusive Beach Resort Getaway". I believe it was $79 pp. It included all the beach you could want, along with drinks and food. It was a wonderful decision!

We woke up bright and early today as we had to meet our group at 8:45am to head to our excursion. So we woke up and I always like to go on the balcony first thing, so here is today's first couple of pictures. We arrived into Progresso around 7:45am:

DSC02258.jpg

We were on Starboard on the ship, so we didn't get to watch any runners....although as I told you I have a funny story about that for later!! Don't let me forget it! :p:cool: Here is the starboard side of the ship where our room was located looking out at one side of the long pier, where they load freight, etc:

DSC02259.jpg

So up to breakfast we went to enjoy a not so busy breakfast...ha ha yeah right.....Lido Deck 9. So, here we are after breakfast, full and ready to go! I still had a large glass of orange juice left! Mom wanted to take my picture, she was getting tired of me taking hers. Funny thing is, my husband told mom that this cruise will be the start of a million pictures, so he warned her!! LOL :p Here I am, ready to go on our excursion. Oh and another thing, I took a backpack on both of our excursions and it worked out perfect! I suggest using a backpack when you leave port to tote your goods!:

By now it is getting close to 8:30 so off the ship we go!!! YIPEEEE!!!!......so, guess what, I had to take another picture! Oh yes, Smile mom!!!!! :)

DSC02263.jpg

So basically we got off the ship, walked down the pier and there was our group with a sign. So we all got a pretty hot green sticker and walked in a line (wait are we in school again??!!....:p) to the air conditioned bus, yes AIR CONDITIONED bus!! So here is the picture of all of our group waiting to get on the bus!!, no, no, not the gone bus!:

DSC02267.jpg

...and we are finally on the bus, ready to go!:

I am really enjoying your review. We will have that cabin in October and it looks just as wonderful as the one like it on the Conquest. One of our friends will have the aft wrap next to it, so we are hoping to get the divider open for a huge balcony. Another friend has the same room on the other side so no matter how the ship docks we can watch for the runners.

I am really enjoying your trip report. My mom and I used to take short weekend vacations together and we always had a blast. Last year she wouldn't go on the cruise without my Dad so the three of us had a great vacation. I'm looking forward to your next installment.

We were on the same cruise, same floor, same kind of room, 7416 on the other side, & were looking for the meet & greet too!!! Too bad we didn't know y'all were right around the corner. We could have at least met someone from our roll call. I guess the late start did mess everyone up.:confused:

We enjoyed the L shape room also especially the long balcony with the lounge chair!

We had a great time and wish we could have all met up!

Your review is great!

Thank you!! Funny you ask, it was actually not that big. I bought a sheet of neon pink posterboard and cut it in half vertically. So it was actually about 18" wide by 32" tall, something like that....so I just folded it in half and stuck it in my bag. I have a large thin area in my suitcase on the very front, Remember the pic of our bags? Mine is the black one and I just folded it and stuck it in the front zipper area! The swirl things were actually flat paper things I bought at Freds (if you can believe that!!). I love being creative!! I think part of it comes from owning a marketing/design firm!

Magnets are a good idea too but the paper thing is probably cheaper.

Either way, its always fun making something for the door!

We got the magnets online and I think i payed $50 for 4 of them and they were 14 x 26 (the kind that you see stuck on the sides of cars. So yes they were a bit pricey but we all have them on our refrigs at home and it was a fun way to show off my sons tropical wedding pictures :)

Thank you so much! Yes, you will LOVE the cabin, its wonderful and I really hope you get our room steward - Nur, such an awesome guy and always on top of things before you have a chance to ask! He was great!....although luckily I have never had a bad room steward, anyway I just hope you get him! He told us stories about his 9 year old daughter back home in the Phillipines I believe it was, you could tell he missed her. I can't imagine ever working off somewhere for that long of a time and only seeing a child a couple months a year, but anyway you could tell he missed her and he was so personable!

That will be an AWESOME balcony if you have friends in the aft wrap. I did peek around the corner a time or two and was amazed how much larger their balcony was! I thought ours was very large but theirs was even larger! So that will be awesome! Just like having your own Lido deck, just need a waiter and a buffet! LOL :p

That is great that you have friends on the other side, that will be fun, watching from either side, the runners are always hilarious. I am not sure if its the runners that are so funny but more so what people are yelling at them!!! Oh well, they need to learn!

Thank you! We do weekend trips a lot too! It's so fun! :) I can't imagine life without my mom, she is the greatest thing in the world (besides my husband! LOL Good thing he isn't on cruise critic!!!)

Hey Pam & Robby!!! I CAN NOT BELIEVE you guys were that close and we didn't even end up meeting up! Durn!!! I was figuring the late depart time messed everyone up on our roll call. Yes we loved the balcony and the lounge chair.

One of my funny stories is we came in one day, can't remember which, but we were a little tired, well I told mom I was going to go sit on the balcony.......well an hour later I woke up - somewhat sunburnt on my right side because I feel asleep in the sun. It luckily evened out being in the sun more later but I walked in the room and mom was watching tv, well she was asleep too!! So anyway it was kindof funny that we were both asleep!

Hopefully we can meet up on another cruise, do you guys have another one planned in the near future? We don't yet but my husband and I may plan one in November. We love cruising in the fall.....

Great idea on showing off the tropical wedding!! We usually throw out our door deco the last day....so would be neat for a special occasion to have a magnet for remembrance!

Progresso, Yucatan Continued........

We waited on the bus for probably 15 minutes for straggler (or people that don't know how to tell time!) ;) Anyway it was no time and we were off! We had an awesome tour guide to the resort. We actually had to ride the bus for about 35 minutes, but our guide was so informative that it went by super fast. He was very, very funny too! Here he is. His name was Missle (According to him because he is the bomb! LOL) He did an excellend job of his role! Here is Missle:

DSC02271.jpg

Basically the bus was your typical tour bus. Large seats with air conditioning, and let me tell you the air worked so good it was actually cold on the bus!! But we were just happy to have air! :)

We were transported to this beach resort area called Coco Reef. It is pretty much a straight shot out over the long 7 mile bridge. Instead of turning right to go to the capital, Meridia, stay straight and it will take you right there.

During our ride, we got a ton of information from Missle. He really knew about his home country. He told us flamingos were common in the area. They come there to mate and have babies. He said if we were lucky today we would see one. We pulled over in an area they usually hang and there were 3 in the FARRRRR distance. OF course, I was going to take a picture but I was afraid it was so far away that it wouldn't show up, so I didn't.

**Interesting facts about Progresso:

1. The most expensive house on the island is $180,000 USD and it is beachfront property 4000-5000 sq feet. With all sorts of extras! Property is very, very cheap there!

2. Progresso means progress, so it was a city at one time that was seen as progress toward a better place for natives.

3. The Mayan calendar is ending soon, it doesn't mean the world is ending....ha ha Missle got a good kick out of this one!

Mom and I were really suprised how trashy the streets were. We thought for this to be a newer poc, that they would have fixed it up a bit more, but once we entered the property for Coco Reef, it was beautiful!!

As soon as you get off the bus, this is the view from the top - I love this!, its the roof:

....and of course it is all-inclusive so we can't pass the bar up! Here was the bar area and some of the bar tenders. This was all to the right of the property:

Now I have a funny story to tell about mom (good thing she isn't on cruise critic either!!!!!) LOL :p

So, we get to our seats on the beach and sit down. As soon as we get sunscreen on, etc, she asks for a baggie. I have several in my bag, you just never know when or what for you might need one! So I hand her a bag. She starts picking up shells......and gets another bag for shells, and about an hour later she is back for another bag. I am sitting there like mom, why so many shells???!!! "They are for the grandkids" she says.....

...Ok, seriously, you think we have just enough room in the bag for them?? So I let it go.....When we get ready to go, I say mom, do you mind to carry the backpack? She says sure, so it about breaks her back....LOL.....she almost falls down she had so many shells and weight from them. It was a very funny moment!!! We laughed about it for awhile. Luckily that conviced her to give 1 of the 3 large bags of shells to some other kids!! Here she is shell hunting:

DSC02282.jpg

DSC02283.jpg

This is what I did the entire time mom hunted shells:cool::

Here is a couple pictures of the resort area itself:

This was a bar to the far left of the property.....

This was looking back behind our seats. We were on the end of the beach seats, so looking back to the right you see this:

Looking back to the left, you see the main beach entrance:

This is looking in the center:

I really like this one, this was past the bar area on the property beside the resort:

DSC02296.jpg

There really was shells everywhere, this sortof shows it in less than 3" of water:

DSC02299.jpg

I even got to enjoy the hammock for a little R&R:

This is a view of the property walking from the beach back to the property:

Loving your review & pictures so far! I've been so busy lately, I haven't started mine. We didn't end up making it to the M&G area that day, as we totally forgot! :o Oops. We too were in the London dining room, but upper level for late seating. Mom & I went on an excursion on our cruise last year, in Progreso that went to some of the ruins & other spots to see, but ended at the resort you were at. It was so beautiful there!

I look forward to the remainder of your review.
