rphpcf Posted May 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2012 HI, We're taking a Douro River Cruise on AMA Waterways next year that will start in Madrid and end in Lisbon. We wonder if there are any Jewish sites along the way that we may want to see. Thanks for any info.
diane.in.ny Posted May 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2012 We did the same cruise with Viking a couple of years ago (but in reverse) and loved it. Lisbon does have an old Jewish section, along the bottom of the hill going up to the Amalfi (sp?) district. And one of the ruins we visited along the river had a Jewish section and you could see where the mikvah was. Sorry I can't remember the name of the old town but you might visit it. It was known because Catholics, Jews and Muslims all lived there in peace for many years. Here are two resources that might be able to help you: We had several days in Lisbon and arranged a custom tour with Tours For You. They did a great job and you may want to contact them to see if they can help you out. Also, here is the link for Portugal's official tourism site You might be able to get some help there
