Sept 11 cruises out of NY

We are leaving September 11th out of NY on the Crown.

I wanted to ask any New Yorkers or fellow cruisers of last years Saturday sailings if they encountered any traffic problems?

Such as holdups, or closing of roads when we get to the tunnel and surrounding port areas?

We are driving from South Jersey and usually would get to NY about noon.

We are hoping to try to plan out the trip so we can avoid any problems if possible.

We sailed last year on the Regal out of New York on 9/11 and traffic did not seem to be a big problem. They did close some of the streets early in the day for the memorial services around 9:00. You might just want to go into New York a little early just in case. At first I was worried about sailing out of New York on that date but with the amount of security that was everywhere it was probably the safest place to be.

I've sailed out of NYC before on a weekend. Personally, I would leave early in the morning and be at the terminal by 9-10 am. Getting there at 12 will lead to more nightmares especially if you have to park your car..........Karen

NY has to be the safest place to be on that day so we arent worried about leaving NY on the 11th.

I know the memorial services are probably from 8-10am. I found a bit of a schedule from last year on a website.

Of course it doesnt mention roads being closed off.

Think we will try to adjust our plans a bit for delay just in case.

We usually leave here about 10 am and it takes a good 2 hours if we dont stop.

Last year we left from Bayonne on the 18th, which was easier for us but not very scenic.

 

I think we are the only ship leaving that day, so that might make it easer.

(Ill have to check the schedule).
