andreaplants Posted May 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2005 As many of you know by now - we are taking our first cruise in may We are interested in: 1. Walking on a glacier 2. DogSledding 3. HorseBack Riding (maybe) 4. Helicopter tour to see the rugged beauty of alaska and just generally Being active and seeing gorgeous stuff (glaciers, mountains, misty fjords) and being outside We have: SKAGWAY 05:30AM 07:45PM 08:15PM JUNEAU 06:30AM 03:30PM 04:00PM KETCHIKAN 08:30AM 05:15PM 05:45PM From advice on here, it sounds best to book ahead of time although I have to make sure we get our money back if tours are cancelled. Which port would you choose for each of the above 4 (well, 5) things? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! :) Andrea

Budget Queen Posted May 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2005 There are FULL refunds for any tour canceled by the operator. As for your priorities- Walking on glaciers- Juneau and Skagway Dogsledding- Glacier??? same as above with Juneau the most canceled of all Alaska tours, Skagway less so. Dogsledding with cart- Skagway, but also look at getting into the Yukon via rental car to Caribou Crossing, way cheaper cart rides. Horseback riding- Carcross with Joni can book with Southeast tours or drive there yourself. Glacier helicopter landing- Juneau and Skagway, this IS different than the glacier dog sledding which is on more snow where this is more ice. You may also be interested in a trekking with Northstar trekking out of Juneau? ALL of the above needs ADVANCE reservations.
