I am going on a cruise 6/12 and there are 14 of us going. The grandparents that are going want to stay in a nice hotel the night before we leave.

Can you guys give me some hotel suggestions? :)

Thanks!

Assuming you like the ambience of the French Quarter, there are lots to pick from. Personally, I like the older hotels like the Monteleone. The Omni Royal is also a great choice along with the Royal Sonesta. Do an expedia search and specify the French Quarter, and you'll see loads of choices, from big brand names to small boutique places...its fun just to browse and hard to make a bad choice if you don't live by the motto that cheaper is better.

The Doubletree, Marriott or Sheraton on Canal Street are good for modern accomodations. If you're looking for something in the French Quarter style then look at Bienville House, Hotel Provincial or Place de Arms. Close to port there's a nice Wyndham or Embassy Suites. Even though the port looks to be in walking distance of the convention center, you're still going to want to take a cab because it's quite a haul. Enjoy your cruise!

We have made a few trips to New Orleans, and I will offer you my thoughts on a few of the hotels we have stayed in over the years.

We first stayed in the Hilton on the riverfront right next to the cruise port area, and it was a typical, sterile hotel. It is adjacent to the aquarium, and near the casino. Before Harrah's opened the Flamingo riverboat casino docked there. It is a good little walk to Bourbon Street.

We next stayed in the Sheraton, which was very close to Bourbon Street, and we liked it a little bit better than the Hilton. There is a Starbucks in the lobby, and it is right across the street from the Palace Cafe, which is one of our favorite places for dinner.

For one of my wife's business trips we got to stay in the Windsor Court Hotel. This is a first class hotel with the prices to go along with it. Thank God for business expense accounts. It is on the other side of Harrah's from the Hilton. It is almost worth a visit to the lobby just to inhale the fresh, oversize bouquet of roses. When we were there, the King of Qatar was there for a meeting, and had a whole floor of the hotel for himself and his entourage. That tells you how nice this place is.

Our least favorite was the Hyatt by the Superdome. They were on the verge of remodeling it, and I would assume it is complete by now. The location was far removed from everything, and the room was small. We also had some service issues while there, without a good response from the management. This was a few years ago, and I would hope that they have fixed alot of the problems we had by now.

Our all-time favorite, though is the International House Hotel, which is also on Camp Street. It was an awesome experience with the great flavor of New Orleans permeating all through it. We have found deals on the internet, and we have also been able to call and get decent deals just by asking and showing special interest in the Hotel. It is just around the corner from the Sheraton, and easy walking to Bourbon Street.

Good luck!! We love New Orleans, and love sharing our thoughts about it any time.

I strongly suggest the Monteleone. It is a large hotel, owned and run by a fine local family, on Royal Street, one block from Canal Street, and the St.Charles Streetcar stop. It is a block from Bourbon Street, four short blocks to Jackson Square. I grew up in New Orleans, now live on the West Coast, but have referred many to the Monteleone, and all have thanked me. You will need a cab to the cruise pier unless you stay at the Hilton, which is like other Hiltons. I should get some commission from the Monteleones, if I knew how to do it. Give yourself at least two days in N.O., but be careful at night. Stay in well-populated tourist areas.
