Space Center on debarkation day?

We are on the Carnival Magic next week. When we get back to Galveston next Sunday, we're gonna have the day free before our flight home from IAH at 4:30pm.

We will have a rental car.

Can we sneak in a visit to the Space Center on our way to IAH?

Thinking out loud --

I want to be at car return no later than 2:15pm, to allow for shuttle time and normal airport/security/stupidity.

So that means leaving Space Center by 1pm and with 2 kids (girls 3 & 8) we will probably need to do a lunch stop -- so that means leaving Space Center by Noon? Which means we get less than 2 hrs at Space Center?

If Magic debarkation doesn't get us off the ship until 9:30am (we are not VIP and we are not carrying our own bags) and we have to deal with a shuttle to Lighthouse parking -- so at best we're out of Galveston at 10am, yes? Or is this more like 10:30?

Which means we get an hour at Space Center.

OK, scrub that idea.

My girls have never been to Houston or Galveston -- is there a super-cool "destination park/playground" somewhere between Galveston and IAH that we can stop at? What about a cool place for lunch? Should we think of hanging out in Galveston for a couple hours? Where? Should we head to Houston on the way to IAH?

Local knowledge, please? What would YOU do with your 2 young girls with a few hours to spare on the way to IAH on a Sunday?

Thanks,

J

Honestly, with that little time I wouldn't try to do much of anything anywhere but around the Humble area. You never know when you are going to be caught up in a traffice jam. It's taken me just an hour to drive to Galveston, and it's taken over 3 more than once. Sorry to say that not too much comes to mind on something you just have to see in that area. Google Humble parks and restaurants and see if anything interests the kids. There is a small petting zoo type of park where the animals roam free and they have horse back rides, called Old MacDonalds Farm on 1960. My granddaughters, 3 & 4 love it. Hope you have fun whatever you do.
