Snorkeling for las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta how deep?

A friend is letting me borrow her underwater camera. It has a depth of 5 feet. We plan to snorkel in Puerto Vallarta with the excursion las Caletas, I know you *can* stay at the surface but I am wondering is that pretty much what everyone does? I don't want to bring the camera if I will miss out on seeing anything just to stay w/in 5 ft of surface to protect the camera.

Also, I am very new to snorkeling, having never been, I got my kids a nice youth snorkel and mask that is "dry" and now I am wondering what the adult snorkel is like that they provide (semi-dry, dry or not even that-surface only?). My hubby and I just planned to use the gear they have. My girls just need to use the fins since we didn't buy them those.

Thanks!!!!

I typically stay on the surface and noticed most others doing that when I was in Las Caletas or other snorkeling trips in PV. I don't know what the category of mask would be called in Las Caletas because I have only stayed on the surface.
