Norwegian Star - Cabin recommendations

Hi, I'm thinking of cruising the Star's transatlantic next April and was wondering what people's thoughts are on the outside cabins. (my friend prefers outside)

 

I believe the obstructed views are VERY obstructed. But does anyone have any particular tips over portholes vs picture window, best location - I think we'd prefer to stay away from cabins near bars/night venues etc...

 

I've only ever cruised the EPIC before, andfound cabin selection much easier.... :)

We're booked on the same cruise. We looked at the obstructed cabins, but like you said...they seemed very obstructed (with the exception of the ones behind the smaller of the lifeboats, which I believe were already taken).

 

We decided on a picture window cabin on deck 5 midships, because the porthole in the porthole cabins on deck 4 is just too small. The downside to deck 5 is that it's below public areas, so we studied the deck plans quite carefully and came up with a cabin below a void of sorts (maybe an office?) between the Casino and Le Bistro.

We just got off the Star for the second cruise this year we booked the same cabin both times....obstructed view we really liked the location it was two cabins down from the main stair case in the atrium and the Blue Lagoon very convenient for breakfast. The view wasn't the greatest, but you were also one flight up from the Promenade. We have been on over 20 cruises, Balconies, inside, suites, but we really liked this cabin. OH and also NO waling down those long hallways. Good Luck...you'll love the Star and the crew!:) Room no# 8616

Just to let you know Big Wally between casino and bistro is a lounge with a piano bar that play until about 1AM.

We were on 8108 & 8110 great location the view is not much but you do get plenty of light . The cabin is so small you can't really stay inside to enjoye anyway. I would book again if we were 2. For the 3 of use it's too small when ds (5) goes to sleep we have no place to move.

We just returned from a Bermuda cruise on the Star, and we had booked cabin 6502 (family, window). This cabin is one of only 4 cabins on the 6th floor, and is next to the Stardust theater. We were worried that there would be noise because of the location, but it ended up being very quiet - we only heard some noise during the day during rehearsals (very faint). Because there are only those 4 cabins on that floor, no one walks by it, so you do not hear corridor traffic at all!

We booked an outside guarantee, and we were assigned cabin 5060. It's midway between the front and mid-ship elevators, so we got lots of exercise. :) Avoid this cabin!

 

I'd checked it on the deck plans to see what was above, and I was pleased to see it appeared that nothing was above us. Whoopsie--it wasn't "nothing," it was a walkway! Every night as we settled down to bed we joked that the elephant stampede had begun. It sure was loud! Didn't really cause any problems, fortunately, because we sleep with a white noise machine that drowned it out.

 

Our bed, two twins pushed together, had obviously seen better days. The mattresses had a gully that we'd sink into upon getting into bed. It was difficult to get out of bed because of this gully, and my back ached toward the end of the cruise... but I slept exceptionally well!

Just returned Oct. 7th from NCL Star to Bermuda. Cabin 8572 is an obstructed view; with a good view. Large window with only about the lower one third of the window obstructed. Fine ocean view from there up. :) I would think the next door cabin (lower number 8570) would have a good view as well as there was only a very small life boat visible at that area.

Yes, 8562 thru 8576 (perhaps only just for 8576), and the corresponding ones on the other side (8062 thru 8076), were the cabins I was thinking of...small lifeboat in front of 8564-68 and a low-rise (for want of a better way of describing it) lifeboat with a tall pilot cabin in front of 8570/72/76. But I am 95% sure all these are already booked for our cruise.

I've decided to opt for a deck 4 porthole after all the weighing up... might get an upgrade... probably not. For the amount of time i'm in the room, the expensive of a picture window wasn't worth it. :)

Cool. Was an OV w/ picture window that much more? I thought there was only $100pp in it between an inside and an outside.

 

Are you going all the way from NOLA to CPH?

Oh, you're booking from the UK? The pricing (and trial wine purchase information I offered in the other thread) probably won't be useful to you then. And I'm guessing you're maybe thinking of maybe getting off when the ship docks in Dover?

 

On the other hand...Barnsley is a lovely part of Yorkshire. Ee-by-gum! Ecky-thump!

I am considering booking a balcony guarantee on the Star. Anyone know which ones are bad balcony cabins on the Star?

As others have mentioned, don't book any on deck 5! We were also right under a hallway and could hear what sounded like stomping above us at all hours of the day/night. If you get stuck with a room like this, be sure to complain to the Hotel Director because they should really be soundproofing the rooms better than that.

 

We were also lucky enough to be placed next to a crying baby who would wake us up in the morning. Nothing NCL could do about that, but I was shocked at how clearly I could hear everything going on in the rooms next to us. Out of 6 ships, I've never had issues with soundproofing like this before!

Oh, dear. My Missus likes having the TV all night. She claims the sound helps keep her asleep. It's annoying to me, but I wear earplugs myself. Maybe I need to pack some extra pairs to placate the neighbors! :eek:

Yeah - the star TA initial itinary was too long for me and work, but now it ends in Dover for us it makes it much better. There wasn;t huge differences in prices, but every little counts, and often on TA's the ship isn't full meaning there is a chance of upgrading if the room is bad... though i don't think it will be!

 

Barnsley is a lovely part of the country... and my friend is from Scotland, which is lovely too! And don't worry about the wine thing... we've tasted NCL wine before, we're not wine buffs so don't actually mind it! And if its free.... :)

I don't know. All the balcony cabins and mini-suites have been gone for about a week now. Just room for we poor folk down in steerage and a few of the suites left.

 

Hey, maybe the upgrade fairy will give some of us "down below" a suite? Each, I mean...not one suite for a whole bunch of us. ;) That would be cool! :)

My cruise consultant kindly informed me not all the rooms were on general sale for the cruise, so we should enjoy a nice quiet ship, because they were doing some general maintenance, and this affects a lot of the balconies... apparently. (if we believe her... she may have been going for the sale, but i take little convincing!) It makes sense, the same was true for my EPIC cruise earlier this year, they had several corridors shut of and only run at 50% capacity.

Ah. Yeah, I guess that does make sense. Because everybody has been telling me that TAs don't sail full. But there was me looking at that and thinking, "What the heck?" :)

Yeah.. and even if the ship isn't full, the TA last year had a lot more activities than the european EPIC cruise... so in my eyes theres soooo much to do and sooooo many people to meet.

 

Anyway... i think we've drifted off topic...

 

to get slightly back on topic, do you think I can request the room to be set up as a twin... last time I cruised with a friend it was preset to a double, I know the room steward will change it quickly,... just wondered... I'm sure my cruise consultant could add this to the booking??

You mentioned Star 8576...I'm confused...do you feel that is a good room or not? We have it booked this next Sunday for a Western Carib.

Aside from traveling on one of NCL's bloated barges, the epic or breakaway, snag a suite if you can. You'll never go back.
