Ft. Lauderdale departure questions

I am scheduled for the 10/8 sailing on Carribean Princess out of FLL.

I remember about 4 or 5 years ago i sailed Grand princess out of this port. It was such a "Hoot" when left because all of the residents of the condo's at the mouth of the inlet used to flash their lights, blow airhorns, shine spotlights, and just plain join the party as we departed.

 

Does anyone else remember this?

 

More importantly - does this still happen for CP?

They still do it for all the ships.

We left on the Star May 1st and while there were some people watching and waving, I wouldn't say they were overly excited.

On our last cruise in March, there were 8 ships in port ! Yes, 8 ships !!!

 

When we passed in the port entry, well, there was not much noise left (we were the 7th ship to pass)... But I think they still do some sail away party every weekend...

I have noticed a decline in the enthusiasm over the last few years. Still some waving and cheering, but not like it used to be. Still saw a few banners on one of the high rise towers.

Last year as we sailed out of Ft.Lauderdale on the Caribbean Princess, we were.... mooned.... by one or two land-lubbers. I missed it, but my friend told me just after they finished. That's why she's my friend! :D

Favorite departure activity is watching all the clowns in the 25 ft boats think they can outrun a cruise ship :) Eventually Harbor Patrol or whoever gets there with bullhorn and directs traffic until they are all behaving.

 

The condo flags, banners, etc were all there when we were leaving!

It's still a lot of fun, though not as much as when the ships left in the dark. It lacks some of the excitement of strobes flashing at night! Nevertheless, we do enjoy it. :)
