Hol-meister Posted October 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2012 AAA doesn't offer travelers checks anymore but they have a prepaid money card that works like a VISA card. Can use it anywhere VISA is accepted. I was wondering how it may work onboard for getting cash. Anyone use this? Trying to avoid using the ATM. Thanks! You might be able to get chips in the casino for a 3% charge. Then turn them in for cash. Of course you can use it to buy things in the shops, or use it to pay your on-board account. I think I've read they do not accept pre-loaded credit / pre-loaded debit cards due to the fraud issue but I may be on drugs. I would call and ask NCL since I'm not sure and that way you would know the current rules. We just carry cash, split between DW and I (in case) and put the charges on our credit card. I'm not a big fan of cash cards and debit cards on cruises. Some give you access through ATM's but it needs to have a certain "badge" on the machine for that to work. Hol-meister Posted October 31, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I ended up calling NCL and they didn't know what I was talking about. So we will just take cash. I was just trying to find a way to avoid traveling with cash. We are a family of 4 and we are doing some excursions and need cash. Oh well, we'll figure it out. thanks! Demonyte Posted November 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2012 We don't have such prepaid cards here but from what I've read, many of the prepaid cards specifically state that they can not be used on cruise ships.
