Which Bioluminescent Bay????

We will be in Puerto Rico in July and want to experience a "glowing" bay. We are staying at the Wyndham El Conquistador. They offer a trip to the bay nearby. Is this one nice or should we opt for the night tour to Vieques??? The price is about 3X to go to Vieques.:confused:

make sure to read the other threads on this topic. someone posted a moon chart. you should look at it because depending on the day, if the moon is not in the right phase, you won't see anything.

Vieques is off the coast of PR, and you have to take a ferry there. I don't know how the 2 compare, but have heard good things about the one in PR. check this site out http://www.biobay.com

The quality is measured by how many "glowing" organisms are in a gallon of water. Vieques has the most organisms per gallon, so it glows more. However, if you can't make it to Vieques, the one in Fajardo would be worth seeing. I don't know how much of a difference there actually is, but Vieques is suppose to be the best.

Does anyone know if you can see the Fajardo bio bay by boat - not a kayak but a small electric one? We read a review a while back that mentioned this and will be traveling with kids too young to kayak. Also, is it even worthwhile if it is a week before the full moon?

I was there in February and there was a boat that came in. Our tour guide did say, however, that the government was possibly going to disallow boats coming in.

 

Depending on how young your children are, a strong adult can easily control a two person kayak, so your children might not have to do anything but ride.

Whick bay did you go to? We were scheduled for a trip last year, but 100's of motorcycle riders were protesting in the park where the tour departs and it was cancelled "for our safety". The strangest things happen to us. :(
