Distance off the coast

We are going on a repositioning cruise in october. My question is.How far off the coast does the ship sail? thanks

What cruise ship and where from/to is the repositioning...how many days?? Usually you are about 15 to 30 miles out when you're going up or down a coast line. If there's any weather, sometimes the Captain has to do wonderful things to get the ship away from it so this may change. [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img]

It used to be that a ship could cruise within 3 miles of a coast, but since 9/11 ships must stay farther out, usually about 15 or more miles. That rule doesn't apply if you're cruising in narrow channels or between islands that are close together. Where are you cruising and what ship will you be on? It would really help to know those things.

If you're doing a repositioning from Europe to the Caribbean or vice-versa, you can get up to 1200 miles from the coast.

We will be on the Voyager of the Seas. Sailing from New York to Miami via Labadee and Aruba. I just didn't know if we would be able to see the coast from the ship.
