Ketchikan or Icy Strait Point

I'm researching for a summer 2006 Alaskan cruise and would like input on which is a better port of call between Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point. Have been to Ketchikan and liked it but others in our party have not. I know nothing about Icy Strait.Any help appreciated.

If you go whale watching, fishing, or bear watching, I'd say Icy Strait. You've been to Ketchikan; you have not been to ISP. I personally thought ISP was kind of blah, though.

Only you can decide. For me, I'm going to Icy Strait this August, having never been there, I expect a great adventure and VARIED Alaska trip. :)

It depends on if you want the tourist Alaska or the real Alaska that hasn't been infiltrated by tourist shops. Nice people either way, but it depends on the experience you want. (And if you choose ISP, make sure you get out of the tourist village and walk to Hoonah. Otherwise the comments about the real Alaksa don't really apply.)

You know what would be cool is if the Hoonah locals let a few of us onto their regular fishing vessels and let us just watch them do their job. That would be sweet.
