The best whale watching?

There are many places and companies to go whale watching with, which one is the best? I have heard that Juneau has the most whales near by. Also, I am a big fan of high speed boats, which excursions, if any, incorporate this kind of thing in the experience? Thanks a bunch, OnMyWayNorth

There is a company that everyone raves about called Capt Larry's. It is also called Orca Enterprises. That seemed to be the favorites among the seasoned Alaska cruisers. There are many threads about Capt Larry so use the search mode to check for them. Many of the threads have links to Capt Larry's website.

 

 

While I don't think his boats are going to fulfill your need for speed they will get the whale watching job done. BTW Larry has a new boat that is to be delivered around the first of July.

There are many good private charters (not expensive) in Icy Strait Point/Hoonah, but most cruise lines don't go there. If yours does, I think it's a better option than Juneau.

Allen Marine booked through your cruiseline, has very nice boats out of Juneau, but my clear favorite is Orca Enterprises. Was just on a double trip a couple weeks ago. :) For more whale looks, be out on deck with a good pair of binoculars several hours before and after Juneau and Glacier Bay.
