Jan 6th to 20th Thomson Dream

Recommended Posts

Well here is my Review for the Thomson Dream 6th to 20th The cruise on the whole we loved it, The likes of the Caribbean are to die for and St Lucia is a Paradise thanks go to Hackshaws for there Dolphin trip to see them and the Whales in the wild amazing. All the Islands except for Margarita are amazing.

Plus's

Geomat is correct on a lot of what she says, The Lido area outside has changed as per a Canopy over the eating area and the nice soft furniture is nice where the smokers area used to be, Great move to put the Smoking area upstairs on deck 10 which has it,s own little bar too. It gives loads more room for smokers and non-smokers alike, Lido as far as food is concerned is Fine, some people do need to lighten up though please give a bit of thought to others who are older and not as good on the feet as you i,m not one of them. Being Rude and jumping in front of people is just down right rude loads of time no rush.

Medusa Lounge does seem a lot better and the furniture is nice as are the carpets, but the only moan is that there does seem to be space where there could be room to fit in more Chairs. If you time it wrong and go in when they are coming out of the Broadway your fighting for a chair and tables.

Orion Restaurant is still the best amazing food and amazing staff fantastic no horror stories here.

The Casino is yes small but for me it does not make any difference i never use it but for the ones who do it seems adequate.

The Bar by the Casino is nice but would be better without Keith on the piano singing or trying too.

Lounge with no bar nice for a chat and you can still get a drink from the Argo Lounge which is still a nice bar with a duo playing in there was fine but Boring.

Library still a lovely place to go for a very quiet read, The Internet comes under Minus's.

Broadway Showbar, Still excellent shows but without Mr Guy it has gone down a little. Very good content to the shows and well done to all in the group. Paul Fisher is no Stephen Guy.

Presenters Brett, Adam, and Ami were really good but Julius comes under the Minus and is the most annoying presenter i have ever heard and met patronizing is not the word.

Top Men are the best i have ever heard they are brilliant and hope i get to see them again soon.

The Cabin we were in 7117 Midships and was perfect tea and coffee making facilities were adequate you could unplug the kettle and fill it from the tap or pay for the water from the bottle £1.90. Milk was never enough or sugar ok if you want one cup a day. There has been a change to the cabins but still the old dark wood needs brightening.

I never went in the Grill so no comment Sirens was fine.

Going through immigration at Barbados makes things much easier and makes the whole airport thing less hectic.

Minus's

The duo on the Sirens Deck awful young girl screaming at the top of her voice.

The jacuzzi's on the Sirens Deck great but no showers even though it does have signs asking you to shower put one right in the middle Thomson's would be perfect, and also very dangerous as it has that suction thing right in the middle, if you remember a young girl years ago had her hair in this sort of think and drowned not on a ship i must add but the same anyway, i also stubbed my toe on it too. Also better hand rails to get into please.

The Internet i know it is slow but the attitude of the reception to people who go there to question them about it needs sorting. I paid £16 for 3 hours i took 1 hour of that loading 1 page try and get the money back no chance a credit on your account would be good. This does need sorting out Thomson's really poor service. I went to complain to reception about being unable to log off which you have to or lose all your money and i was looked at as if i had crawled from under a stone. Thomson's really need to sort the Reception badly.

One night there was water pouring through the ceiling on deck 5 and buckets by doors on deck 9 Someone said that a person had left the plug in the basin on deck 6 and left the water running must have been which was the deck 5 one! but the deck 9 it seemed to be coming out of the pipes so problem there.

Well Guys there is my review not a great amount but the pro,s out weighed the con's the staff as always are amazing, I think the amount of money spent on the ship was spent in the Engine room etc. anyway when you go enjoy have a great cruise.

thanks for this...sounds pretty much the same as when we left it

agree with the seating in medusa....nice but impossible to get a seat at busy times and there is room for more seating....impossible to get a drink at busy times too

I'm still gutted about the casino....gutted I tells ya!

they cant get rid of Keith and his piano....nooooooo!

Poor Julius....he's only 18 and on work experience....but he did keep giving out the quiz answers by mistake...bless im

top men....yeah! .....I even enjoyed their rendition of sultans of swing (and I hate that tune normally)

the steel drum player is fantastic...v talented

Interesting that you could unplug your kettle? ours was attached to the wall?

yep, we had a couple of leaks on deck 5 too

so, dont anyone be put off...pros definitely outweigh the cons

Apparently there is some news afoot about Top Men , they have a " friends of top men" page on face book.

I put a comment on saying we loved them on the Spirit in 2011 and pleased they are on the Dream as we will be on her in Oct .

The reply said there will be some news soon but sounded as if they may NOT be on the Dream in Oct , not sure whats happening, will be more info soon. :(

What a shame if they are leaving, hope not.

maybe they will be due r&r by October?? they usually do 10 month contracts then have a few months off

....you may get the Peakles? currently on Celebration....very good too, by all accounts:cool:

Yes , i forget everyone needs a rest. Although the way it was said sounded more serious, will let you know

The Peakles are nowhere near as good as Topmen IMO: they do not have the repertoire that Topmen play. They performed a very good Beatles tribute but Topmen most definitely have the edge!!

Thanks NWC for that info on the Dream. I'm looking forward to seeing the new developments but not going with too high expectations - if the basics are as good as usual I'll be happy enough! ;) From what you say the food in the Orion is very good and you enjoyed the entertainment so that's a big plus for me - just hope the leaks are sorted! :)

Hi Gizzie , guess who ....

Just wondered what happens at the end of each season then with the show teams, do they know in advance where they will be or do they have to re-apply for a diff ship etc

Does Darren know where he will be after April ?

To be honest Dreamgirl, i don't really know as i don't ask Darren too much as i think he needs to keep his professional career separate. when he was younger, i was very much involved with what he did as i did a lot of his gig planning etc. I think it depends what each person has planned. Some like to have a rest or have other things to move on to, in Darren's case, he was going to be doing pantomime last christmas, but i think he was offered a last minute placement and decided to take it. I'm not sure how it works, but i think that once they are on the books, they just check what is available for future cruises and take it from there.

Darren hasn't decided what he is doing yet as far as i know, though knowing him as i do, he will be thinking things over and he may already have something in the pipeline, but i have yet to be told. I don't hear from him very often, not like when he is in the Uk when he phones me weekly ( he's very thoughtful like that and we are very close) I know how busy they get, though i have heard more from him whilst he's been out there, than i did when he was with the Celebration. Although he has been dancing since he was 18 months old, i know he would rather do more singing than dancing. He did do West Side Story in Cork in 2010 and i loved that, but i think he would like to have a career in the music industry. Just have to be in the right place at the right time and be able to afford to live in the right area. Living miles from any city hasn't helped over the years, but he will keep working to get where he wants to be i am certain of that!

Gizzi Darren is one of the major plus's to the show I met him to nice lad. They work hard omg.

Thanks for that lovely comment NorthWalescouple, i always pass these on to him (Well that's what mums do ;) )

Seriously, he really appreciates any feedback, good or bad, and doesn't mind criticism as he will just work harder to make his performance and that of his team mates better. They do work hard, and Darren is very keen for the team to give the best he can. He doesn't care whether he is at the front or the back of the show as long as that is what is best for the show.

Yes you might see him, he may well do another. You'll definitely get a hug, he's a very affectionate lad, mind you, a few years ago when i was getting one of these hugs, he picked me up in the air and i ended up banging my head. He is only little, but he's extremely strong. One comment a girl gave when he turned up for rehearsals, was, " No way can he lift me " She was much bigger than he was, but she soon ate her words:D

Can i just say to everyone, i know Darren's name has cropped up a bit and i do tend to rabbit rabbit rabbit once his name is mentioned so apologies, but i really appreciate hearing about him good or bad (Unless he has been blind drunk :D then i don't want to know ;). I don't mollycoddle him or try to wrap him in cotton wool, he is his own man. I will never take offense at any criticism either, as i'm not one of these mums who thinks that her child is good no matter what anyone else thinks, as i am also very critical of him when i see the need to be, and Darren likes honesty and that is what i give him. Sometimes it is just my preference of what he has done and other times it is because i think it was a poor performance, though luckily i haven't had to do this often. So keep the comments coming, It makes him feel close.

Undercover Agent K reporting in!:D Off this w/e so will report back to HQ when I get back! :D Seriously though I will say 'Hello' (hope he doesn't get too fed up with Mum's CC friends!) and as ever, I'm really looking forward to the shows - I'll make sure I go and see Darren if he has a cabaret spot - from what I've read that will be a treat too. ;)

Have a super time Kruz. You need to speak to somebody in authority & ask them to allow Darren to do a cabaret spot when his Mum's on 17th Feb I think!!!! (Especially as he wasn't doing them when she was on the Celebration last year:( !)
