annim Posted January 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Are there any WWII historical sights to see in or very near Palermo? Thank you so much :)
euro cruiser Posted January 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2013 None that I'm aware of. You can visit the allied landing sites at Gela and Licata, on the southern shore of the island, or the Allied Landings Museum in Catania (more information here: http://www.provincia.ct.it/il_territorio/musei/museo_dello_sbarco_in_sicilia/indexEng.aspx), but I'm not aware of anything in Palermo or its immediate surroundings. The entire Sicily campaign was pretty short, about a month long, and as far as I know the only remnants in Palermo are some bomb markings on buildings.
